    POLVIEWS: From extremely liberal - point 1 - to extremely conservative point 7. Where would you place yourself on this scale? PARTYID: Generally speaking, do you usually think of yourself as a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or what?

    a. The greatest number of respondents regard their political views as moderate, with 39 %. The second most common response was slightly conservative, representing 17 % of cases. 15 % of respondents consider themselves conservative or extremely conservative, but only 11% view themselves as liberal or extremely liberal. b. Those who report being Democrats (both strong and not strong) constitute 37 % of the sample, whereas those who report being Republicans (both strong and not strong) are 26 %. The least common party affiliation is independent, with 9 %.
