ABSTRACT
The objective of surround sensing is to keep the driver informed about the surrounding traffic and other obstacles in the path which will enable him to maneuver around obstacles with minimum risk. Surround sensing plays a major role in various driver assistance systems related to smoother, economical and importantly safe driving. The sensors use ultrasonic [SONAR], infrared, LIDAR (I.R based), imaging [CCD, CMOS] technology to sense the surrounding of the car and help eliminate any blinds spot around the vehicle. The data acquired from all these sensors is then sent to the controller where various data like velocity, acceleration & positioning is accessed for use by various Driver Assisting Systems. The driver assisting systems use the input from the sensors and take the required action depending upon its function.
