World War One: The Homefront Name: Bradley Perkins Class/Subject: 11th Grade US History Time: Two 50 minute

periods Student Objectives/Student Outcomes: 1. Students will analyze the effects of World War One on the American home front. 2. Students will work in groups to create a presentation of their learning to the rest of their classmates. Content Standards: 16.D.4b (US) Describe unintended social consequences of political events in United States history (e.g., Civil War/emancipation, National Defense Highway Act/decline of inner cities, Vietnam War/anti-government activity). Materials/Resources/Technology: -whiteboard and markers -Homefront readings

Start of Class: Teacher will begin class by having the students provide some answers to the following question: What are one to two words that you think could describe the civilian population of a country at war? Answers will be written on board. Introduction of Lesson: Teacher will split the class into five groups and provide them with the following instructions: Based on the reading given, students must find a creative way to present the material to their fellow classmates. Each presentation should be at least 3 minutes long and fully explain at least one concept the group found important in their assigned reading. The five topics are as follows: -Women -Unions -Food Production -Propaganda -Anti-German Sentiment Teacher will give presentation suggestions such as skits, songs, dance, stories, etc.

Lesson Instruction: Teacher will allow students to work in their groups to create their presentations for rest of day one. Students will regroup on day two for five minutes to tie up any loose ends. Assessments/Checks for Understanding: Teacher will ask each student to write down on a sheet of paper three things they have learned from each group. Presentations by the groups will now begin. Although the minimum time is 3 minutes, extra time is allotted for switching groups and groups that go over the time. Closure/Wrap-Up/Review: Teacher will have students tell the class something they learned during the Presentations and what topics they found the most interesting.
