A Mandatory Building Inspection Program is part of a comprehensive approach to improving the lives of Chicagos residents 1. Landlords register their properties. Landlords are charged a yearly per unit fee 2. Landlords and tenants are notified in advance of inspection, including a copy of inspectors checklist
3.

Units are inspected for health hazards, on a minimum 5 year cycle focusing on buildings in high risk areas first

4. Fines may be given if hazards exist, a follow up inspection occurs to ensure compliance 5. If repairs go unfixed a second time, landlords are charged full inspection costs
