MORE THAN 2 DOZEN RURAL POST OFFICES TO REMAIN OPEN IN CONGRESSMAN RUBN HINOJOSA'S DISTRICT
Congressman Rubn Hinojosa announced that 29 United States Postal Service (USPS) Post Offices, 20 of which were marked for closing, will remain open however the hours of service for the 29 will be shortened. Last December 19 of the rural post offices in Hinojosa's Congressional District 15 were scheduled to remain open at least until May 15, 2012. This new decision by USPS means postal service will continue. "This is the responsible and right thing to do for all of our postal workers and our rural residents who rely on their local post offices," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "I along with other members of Congress fought long and hard to prevent the closing of our rural post offices and I was extremely relieved that our mail processing center in McAllen was able to remain open saving over 100 jobs. We sent a letter (see attachment) directly to the Postmaster General letting him know how necessary and how important our post offices are in our communities."
