HOW TO DESCRIBE A PICTURE: a few tips and examples.

1. Focus on the main part of the picture at the beginning. Look at this picture. What can you see?

This is a picture of a little girl listening to music with headphones. Useful language: This picture shows There is / there are I can see 2 . Describe as much as you can. Shes about three years old. Shes got short fair hair and dark eyes. Shes wearing Useful language: In the foreground / in the background On the right / on the left At the top / bottom 3 . Try to use your imagination to make suppositions. For example: Useful language:

I think... Maybe / Perhaps... ( she is listening to music on a train to pass the time. Maybe it isnt music. Maybe she is learning a language a CD course perhaps.) She looks (happy.)

It is best to think about the following: WHO/WHATs in the picture? A room? A street? Some people? (Whats it like? What do they look like?) WHERE was it taken? Where is it/ where are they? (place, country, ) WHEN was it taken? In the morning, afternoon, evening? At night? Is it spring, summer? How do you know? WHY are they there?
