Hamlets Analysis

Everybody knows Shakespeares masterpiece, Hamlet. The play takes place in the early 1960s at the state of Denmark. It talks about prince Hamlet who has recently lost his father and his mother, Gertrude, got married to his uncle, Claudius. He finds out from his fathers ghost that his uncle killed his father, so he plans to avenge his fathers murder. Hamlet goes through internal and external conflicts that lead to his tragic end. Hamlet went through struggles with his inner self. He couldnt bare all the bad things happening in his life so he contemplated suicide. To be or not to be, that is the question (line 56, Scene1, Act 3), in this soliloquy Hamlet talks about how he wants to kill himself and get rid of this cage, his body; but thinks of how suicide is a sin and that killing himself will be no use. His many soliloquies show us how much things where going through his mind at the same time and how confused he was. Another point that shows us how much confusion Hamlet was going through is the incoherence of his actions. For example, after being sure that his uncle killed his father by a small play he pulled off, Hamlet runs after his uncle determined to kill him. When Hamlet sees that his uncle is praying in the church, he decides to wait and kill him afterward so he wont go to heaven. Almost directly after that, Hamlet simply kills a man, Polonius, who was hiding behind the curtains, thinking he was Claudius. This shows us how Hamlet couldnt make up his mind and his internal conflicts. After killing Polonius, Hamlet starts facing the external conflicts. Claudius sends Hamlet to England with his two friends and tells them to kill him there. He ended up killing his close friends. Delaying his actions led to all these conflicts; Hamlet should have acted directly after being certain of his fathers murder. Having internal conflicts led to the hesitancy of actions, this in turn led to the external conflicts. Being put under fates pressure, Hamlet had to deal with every possible kind of conflict, including internal and external. Hamlet, not knowing how to deal with struggles, had his typical Shakespearean tragic end.
