PROBLEM DEFINATION

Our purpose is to make a die with which we

can make small bottles used in the field of medicines. These bottles are used for storing medicines. These small medicine storing bottles are air tight and protect the medicines to come in direct contact with the air. This prevents the medicines from getting contaminated.

ABSTRACT
Blow molding(also known asblow

moldingorblow forming) is a manufacturing process by which hollowplasticparts are formed.

In general, there are three main types of blow

molding: extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, and stretch blow molding.

POLYPROPYLENE PP
Polypropylene (PP) is a linear hydrocarbon polymer, expressed

as CnH2n. PP, like polyethylene (see HDPE, L/LLDPE) and polybutene (PB), is a polyolefin or saturated polymer.
Tensile Strength 0.95 - 1.30 N/mm

Notched Impact Strength 3.0 - 30.0 Kj/m Thermal Coefficient of expansion 100 - 150 x 10-6 Max Cont Use Temp 80 C Density 0.905 g/cm3

APPLICATION AND ADVANTAGE

All types of bottles, toys, air ducts for

automobiles, chemical & gasoline tanks, and household goods.

This process lends itself to any designs

involving hollow shapes. Equipment availability is good in most geographical

Can save tooling dollars over

PROCEDURE USED
First of all we decided to make a project on die making

process because it is one of the most important and familiar topic we studied before. A detailed study of blow molding process and the types of blow molding process was also done. In this study information was collected from books, references, internet source and faculties of our and different institutes.
5/18/12

After a whole lot of research and market survey Mild steel as a

material for the die-making was selected because of its appropriate hardness, toughness, stability, pressure resistance, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance properties, strength and low costs.
After that designing was done on the CATIA software according

to the requirement of the product to be obtained and the analysis of the parts was done on PRO-E software results of which are attached previously in the project report.

5/18/12

After that print out were taken for die manufacturing. After that workshop was selected where we performed the

following operations on the die with the help of skilled workers: The raw material which was selected and purchased from

the market was measured and marked according to the dimensions required for the accomplishment of the desired die design.
The material which was marked and measured its cutting
5/18/12 process was done with the help of the power hacksaw. The

PRODUCT SAMPLING CALCULATION DURING SAMPLING:

Pressure = 125 psi Blow pin = 11 mm Temperature = 120-150 C Shrinkage allowance = 0.5 mm Time for 1 product = 6-7 seconds Coolant = water 5/18/12
