INTRODUCTION
Art and science are such contrasting fields.
The former seems to emphasize expression and creativity, while the latter, systematic scholarly work. Even though such a clear-cut dichotomy is not entirely true in reality, these generalisations have become widely accepted and have affected our perceptions about both art and science, including our assessment of which of the two has done more to unify societies. I think that although both are just as fascinating and inspiring, and can be just as controversial, science unites societies more
(Pt1) To begin, let us consider the view that both art and science can create controversies that divide rather than unite societies
(Pt2) In addition, another allegation is that both art and science can be said to accentuate the class divide within societies
Art is for the cultured Science is for the educated Money is needed for us to
(Pt3) Yet, between the two, art divides societies more because it is too open to interpretation to be a unifying influence.
Science, however, aims to arrive at a widely accepted understanding of the environment and things around us.
(Pt5) Science has done more to unite societies because it is inherently culturefree
This is different from art which is based on culture and values, and is an exertion of identity. Unless the values behind and the message of an art piece are universal, art will invite discussion, and even perpetual disagreement. While science is not free from conflict, science is not founded on such nebulous concepts like values, culture and identity. The matter of disagreement can still come to a close at least until new objective evidence comes to light.
