It aids the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills through the actual experience in working in the field of their profession. Thus, making the workplace become a new venue of learning for the student. On the companies side, OJT program provides additional manpower with lesser labor cost than a regular employee. Trainees are eager to learn the ropes of the business so cooperation is not a question. Employers can make use of the OJT program as a method in recruiting new employees since the mentor had witnessed the trainees performance, behavior and attitude progress and growth. As for the OJT program for the Interior Design course, the students would be trained by one, two, or three companies in three different categories of the program. THE HAPPENINGS This chapter narrates the trainings that the student trainee had gone through during the OJT period. This reflects how the training played as a developmental tool and how it was delivered effectively by the company. O n the job training was an important element INTERIOR DESIGN The trainees 100 hours of OJT for interior design started on April 12, 2012. It started with the introduction of the companys profile, what are the products, services, the works done in the office and outside the office. And because M Contemporary Interior Corp, is a new song for most people in the design business, the trainee is quite surprised and overwhelmed to know the companys details and clients. On her first day, the trainee was assigned to clean and rearrange all the materials and swatches at the office. The people are in the middle of their rush on their presentation for the Avida Towers Intima project so the mentors asked for the trainees help on doing material board. After lunch, the suppliers visited the office to introduce their products to the designer and the trainee was ask to attend nd participate to the presentation. The trainee was overwhelmed when the JOY Residence booth was assigned to her. The task was to make a design of the exhibit booth which portrays a cheerful auro with geometric patterns and in a modern way. The trainee was not consistent in continuing her hours for interior design because her help was asked for furniture drafting. Everyday is an unpredictable day for the trainee, because she doesnt know what task will be given to her and on what scope. Either of interior design and furniture were given to her yet she accepts it well. In the middle of the period, the trainee was assigned to go for site visits, shopping and styling. Through that she experienced the real life and the role as an Interior Designer.

In the end of her OJT period, May 8, 2012, the trainee was able to learned to shop, to inspect every little pieces and to style. The trainee also learned that oneself should be productive any day. FURNITURE DESIGN The trainees 50 hours of OJT for furniture design started on April 13, 2012. During the training period, the trainee was introduced to the different faces of the business and the profession. On the first day of the OJT for furniture, the trainee was able to share her drafting skills when she was asked to make a furniture perspective of a Console table for the Avida Towers Intima. The mentor explained the standard measurements, the materials and the details to the trainee and was a little impressed how the trainee managed to absorb and use the entire mentor explained. In this training the trainee was able to apply the lessons from Furniture Design and Detailing. Due to lots of loads, the other mentors need help to other subject so the trainee stop on making furniture drafting and help on other projects. To lessen the crams and rush, the trainee decided to accept task randomly (in interior design and furniture). In the end of OJT period for furniture design, May 7, 2012, the trainee learned to draft with proper light values and detailed the furniture. She also learned to check the finished product and make a quality inspection and do a punch list The trainee realize that she needs to improve her drafting proportions. ARCHITECTURE The trainees 50 hours of OJT for Architecture started on May 4, 2012 but not consistent because she was not yet finished to interior design hours. In this field, the trainee was introduced to plans that she was never met even before. Huge and wide plans with elaborate specifications and 3d models. On her first day, she was assigned to have a site visit with the

mentor. On the site, the trainee did a lot of things, ocular inspections, quality inspections and actual measuring. On the office, the trainee was assigned to make floor plans and 3d models. In the end of her training period, May 16, 2012, the trainee learned to check and monitor the status of the construction and making conversations with the contractors.

CHAPTER 3

THE OUTCOMES The training inside the company is learning experience each day. The trainee learned to appreciate the lessons studied in school. She was able to realize the importance of theories and formulas that were discussed inside the classroom, and also to understand that everything that was taught at school can be a weapon to be used in the future career. As the trainee was working at M Concept, she learned to work hard and strive harder. The trainee realized the worth of every little detail and the quality of a designers service. The on-the-job-training is indeed a very useful program for students to show and develop the skills they have and to develop their selves into the type of professional we all should be. During the OJT, the trainee learned to interact with other people. Although people differ, making friends with the staff of these two companies is not difficult. Even though she was only a trainee, the treatment is very overwhelming . By interacting with them, the trainee learned to work with patience. Although thoroughly working on something was time consuming, the quality of the output is the most important. She also learned from her co-workers experiences and mistakes and applies them whenever she needed it. They also encouraged the trainee to do well in school and become a successful Interior Designer someday. The trainee realized that learning is a lifetime commitment that will continue even you already had a job. The training served as the stepping stone of the trainees to the real life of a designer. It served as the beginning the real life of being an employee. The training gave the students more initiative to their chosen career. The students were more encouraged to pursue the Interior Design course. The training inspired the trainees to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering. The trainees were given some ideas what could be the feeling or situation being an employee. The training enriched their individuality as a beginner and

created the foundation of being a good worker. The best thing that the trainees have gained inside the company was the good orientation of the person having the higher positions.
