Analysis Procedure of Testing Raw Material Sodium Hydro Sulphite Specification : there are two grades available in commercial

market. ( around 84% and 88%) Test Method : IS 1919-1982 Procedure : Weigh accurately 4 gms of the sample in weigh bottle. Transfer it in 100 ml volumetric flask. Dissolve it in 25 ml mixture of formaldehyde & water. Make volume up to the mark with distilled water. Pipette 25 ml of the solution in a conical flask. Add 15 mo of 1% Acetic Acid solution and titrate it against 0.1 N Iodine Solution using starch indicator. The end point will be persistance of purple blue color for 5 seconds on the addition of the Iodine solution.Note down the burette reading. 100ML 1N Iodine = 43.53 gms of Sodium Hydro Supplhite. Calculation : % Sodium Hydro Sulphite = B.R. X N of Iodine x 174.12 ----------------------------------------------Wt. of Sample

Caustic Soda Lye Specification : >46.0% ( for Caustic soda Flakes > 99%) % Soduim Carbonate : NMT 1.0%

Test Method : IS 252 1973 Procedure :Weigh accurately 5 gms of sample in weigh bottle. Transfer it in 500 ml volumetric flask. Make the volume up to the mark with distilled water. Shake well. Pipette 25 ml from it ic conical flask and titrate it against 0.1 N Hcl using Phemolphthalien Indicator. End point will be from pink to colorless. Continue the titration using Methyl Orange Indicator. End point will be yellow to orange. Note down the burette reading of Methyl Orange. Equation : 100ml 1N HCl = 40 gms NaOH Calculation : For Caustic % Caustic = B.R. Of Phenolphthalien x N of HCl x 80 ---------------------------------------------------Wt. Of Sample

For Sodium Bi-carbonate B.R. = Phenolphthalien B.R. - Methyl Orange B.R. = diff. X 2 = 2R 2R x 10.6 % Na2CO3 = -----------------Wt. of Sample
