Rising 8th Graders: Summer Reading Book Report

Use this form as a cover sheet for your summer reading project.
This summer you have two reading choices: The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth Speare or Hachet by Gary Paulsen. Please use the instructions below to complete your summer project.
Instructions: _ Fill in the above information properly. _ The rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling apply. _ This project is to be typed in Times New Roman, 12 point font and doublespaced. _ Remember, a good paragraph typically contains 4-6 well thought-out sentences. Label your project according to the layout instructions below. This is not an essay. You project will have three well-developed separate paragraphs, labeled Introduction, Plot Summary, and Conclusion. Layout of the Project: 1. Introduction: Write an introductory paragraph, including the name of the book, the author, and a statement telling what you think the books main theme is. 2. Plot Summary: Write a paragraph summarizing the plot. The plot summary should also include brief descriptions of the main characters. If you think it will take more than one paragraph to summarize the plot, that is okay; but remember, a summary is not a long drawn-out explanation. If you read well and understand the book, you should be able to condense the story to one or two paragraphs. 3. Conclusion: Write a concluding paragraph which includes your opinion of the book. For example, did you like the authors style? Did you like the language used in the book? Was it interesting? Why or why not? Did reading this book impact your life? Why or why not? Remember to always support your opinion with solid reasons from the book and with quotes when appropriate. This is the most important of the three paragraphs because it asks you to form an opinion and back it up. This is a higher level of knowledge skill.
