The Field Situation


- A wave of strikes were staged in most of Damascus's areas by 50% in Hamidiya, 65% in Zuqaq AlJinn, 80% in Halbouni's Al-Maktabat market, 60% in Al-Qanawat district's market, 70% in Khalid Bin Al Waleed St. market and by 70% in Bab Srijah. Security forces fail to end the strike through breaking into the shops.(1)(2) - The Revolutionary Command Council in Damascus announced that some 16 demonstrations were staged in various neighborhoods of Damascus.(2) - The Idlib rural town of Salqin witnessed clashes between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and AlAssad's troops during which the FSA managed to seize heavy military vehicles.(1)

Political Mobility
- In a statement, the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) demands that the number of the UN observer be increased to 3,000, for whom fixed points should be established in the hot spots, which witness continuous bombardment by the Assad forces. The SNC also demanded that criminal investigators should join the UN observers. (2) - Colonel Riyadh Al-Assad, commander of the FSA, rejected the deadline, which ends this afternoon, given by the FSA military council to the Syrian regime to stop violence, calling on the UN- Jihad Makdisi, the Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman, alleges that the Syrian regime was the first to call for sending the UN observer mission to Houla massacre place, saying that Kofi Annan has been turned into a "herald of civil war", as he put it.
