16 Tense in English
1. Simple present tense Function: untuk menyatakan sesuatu yang bersifat tetap kebiasaan atau kebenaran yang hakiki. Formula: (+) S + V1 ( -) S + do (es) not + V1 (?) Do (es) + S + Ving Example: (+) We always read magazine ( -) We do not always read magazines (?) Do you always read magazines? 2. Present continous tense Function: untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang benar-benar sedang dilakukan saat ini. Formula: S + be (am, is, are) + V1 ng Example: (+) We are studying english (- ) We are not studying french (?) Are you studying french? 3. Present perfect tense Function: perbuatan yang terjadi pada waktu lampau dan masih ada hubungannya dengan keadaan sekarang. Formula: S + have (has) + V3 Example: (+) I have collected for many years ( -) You have not told me about it (?) Have you told me about it? 4. Future perfect prograssive tense Function: Untuk menyatakan perbuatan pada waktu lampau kemungkinan dilanjutkan pada waktu yang akan datang. Formula: S + will / shall + have been + Ving Example: (+) I shall have been staying in America (- ) I shall have been not staying in America

(?) Shall you have been staying in America 5. Simple past tense Function: untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang terjadi di waktu lampau. Formula: S + V2 Example: (+) I walked to school yesterday Formula: S + did not (didnt) + V1 Example: (- ) They didnt had have car last mont Formula: Did + S + V1 Example: (?) Did he drink ary tea yesterday 6. Past continius tense Function: Untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang sedang terjadi di waktu lampau dan pada saat yang sama tindakan lain terjadi. Formula: S + was / were / Ving Example: (+) I was reading novel when mother come home (- ) The students werent talking each other when their lecturer was writing (?) Were the students talking each other when their lacturer was writing 7. Past perfect tense Function: Untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang sudah selesai dilakukan sebelum suatu saat tertentu di waktu lampau. Formula: S + had + V3 (past participle) Example: (+) I had seen film before i went to Singapore (- ) I had not (hadnt) seen film before i went to Singapore (?) Had you seen that film before you went to Singapore? 8. Past perfect continius tense Formula: S + had been + Ving (present participle) Example: (+) They had been living in France 5 years when the was began (- ) They had not been living France for 5 years whe the war began (?) Had been you living in France for 5 years whe the war began

9. Simple future tense Function: Untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang akan terjadi di masa waktu mendatang. Formula: S + Shall + Will + V1 (invinitive) Example: (+) She will speak France well soon (- ) She will not speak France well soon (?) Will she speak France well soon? 10. Future continius tense Function: Untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang di perkirakan sedang berlangsung pada saat tertentu di waktu lampau. Formula: S + shall / will be + Ving ( present participle) Example: (+) I will sleeping at 2 oclock to day (- ) They wont (will not) be studying at school when you have (?) Will she wainting letters all day next Sunday? 11. Future perfect tense Function: Untuk menanyakan suatu tindakan yang di perkirakan telah selesai dilakukan pada saat tertentu di waktu mendatang atau bila ada tindakan lain terjadi. Formula: S + Shall / will have + V3 (past participle) (+) The works win have finished the bridge in twelve weeks (- ) The work wont have finished the bridge in twelve weeks (?) Will the students have spooken english and France well after they return from london,? 12. Future perfect continius tense Function: untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan yang di perlukan akan berlangsung dalam kurun waktu tertentu di masa mendatang. Formula: S + shall / will have been + Ving Example: (+) Mr. Been will have been teachingfor 30 years next August (- ) Mr. Been want heve been teaching for 30 years next August (?) Will captain popeye have been sailing for the whole years next week?
