HW # 3 (Cable Size Selection)

Figure below shows 4C XLPE copper feeders (XLPE copper cables) feeding the loads. The diversity factor of the feeders 1&2 is 1.25 and the 3-phase short circuit current bus 1 is 15kA and total fault current clearing time of the fuse is 0.2 sec and CB is 0.3.

415 V

Feeder 3 100 m

Bus 1 Fuse Feeder 2 L=120m Fuse

Feeder 1 L=150m

Total connected Load = 50 kW Demand Factor = 0.7 PF = 0.90 lag

Fig. 1

Total connected Load = 30 kW Demand Factor = 0.7 PF = 0.80 lag

Use the attached tables to determine the size in mm2 of the feeders. Assume 2.0% of the nominal phase voltage as the maximum allowable voltage drop. b) Repeat part (a) for only feeder1 if the ground temperature is 450C and the depth is 0.8 m. Comment on the results. c) Determine the K-constant of each feeder
