Materials/Project Housekeeeping: Make sure you have and become familiar with Computer with Windows XP or Higher and Internet Access Access to Class Animoto Account (Created by Instructor) 3 Discussion Forums o 1 For Team Communication o 1 For Region Selection o 1 To Post Final Project Project Overview: In 5th grade Social Studies, students learn about the different regions and characteristics of them. For this project, students will be grouped into 5 teams. Each team may select their own region (first come first serve). Students will find photos of landforms, famous landmarks, and important places within the region and create a travel video using Animoto. General Instructions (Order of Completion): 1) View Sample Video to get an idea of what you will be creating 2) Students communicate in their assigned team forums (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and decide collectively what region they choose. The five regions to select from are: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West. 3) One member from the team should post their teams selection to the Region Selection Forum. The subject line should read: Team # Name of Region. It is first come first serve so make sure you do not sign up for a region that another group has chosen yet. 4) (Specifically outlined in the Animoto Project Specific Instructions section below). Students sign onto Animoto using class account. Instructor will have setup a template for each team. This template will be where students upload photos and create the video. Username: osweilrm@pwcs.edu Password: Triangle. 5) Final Project must be posted with a link in the Final Project Forum. 6) You must respond, at least one time, to each video posted-including your own. Feel free to engage in further dialogue.

Animoto Project Specific Instructions: 1) Use the Group Communication Forum to decide how you will divide the tasks amongst the group. 2) Be careful when operating on the Animoto site. Since everyone will have access to everything, it will be easy to delete, rename, move, etc. anyones work so please be careful! If you notice photos, projects, etc. moving, disappearing, or any other strange occurrences, please email me. 3) **ALTERNATE PLATFORM** Animoto does have an iPad/iPhone app. If all of your group members have access to these devices, you may use them (you all must have access to use this format). The special part of the app is that you can add voice and narration to your project that you cannot do with the web version. Please indicate in the Region Forum if you plan on using the app so I know to look under the mobile option on the Animoto site to view your project. 4) Click My Videos and find team number template and rename to: Team # Name of Region. 5) There must be a title slide that has Team # Name of Region on it. 6) There must be at least 3 photos per state that is identified in that region. 7) There must be a text slide with the name of the state and its capital before those specific photos appear in the show (its easiest to put the 3+ photos from a particular state together). 8) Try to find pictures of photos of important landmarks, landforms, and places. Ask yourself: Do people travel to see this (like the Grand Canyon, or the Statue of Liberty)? 9) You have 2 options for citing sources. 1) You can have the final slide(s) be a reference list showing ALL of the links to the photos you found. You should use CreativeCommons photos. Flickr and Google Images have the ability to filter for content that is free to use. If you used your own photos, you can indicate that on the reference slide(s). You could list the state names and the links right under each state or however is easiest for your group. 2) If your group has the ability to do a little photo editing, you can insert the link at the bottom of each picture. If you do this, you do not need a reference slide(s). 10) Your group may select any theme and song you wish. The only request I have on the music is to ensure everyone can understand the lyrics. The music is filtered but you want viewers to focus on the video, not the music. Sometimes the music can be distracting. Remember, its a travel video. Make it appealing to watch and listen to! Feel free to explore the themes as they are all neat in their own way.
