Brooklyn, NY (FBI): amaican-born Gary Foster, a former vice-president in Citigroup, Inc.s treasury finance department, was sentenced to 97 months imprisonment on Monday (July 2) for bank fraud arising from his embezzlement of more than $22 million from the bank, according to federal prosecutors in Brooklyn. Between September 2003 and June 2011, Foster embezzled more than $22 million from various Citigroup accounts, by first transferring money to Citigroups cash account and then wiring it to his personal bank account at another bank. Foster concealed his thefts by making various false accounting entries to create the appearance that the cash account was in balance and by placing a fraudulent contract or deal number in the reference line of the wire transfer instructions to give the appearance that the wire transfers were actually in support of an existing Citigroup contract. He used the money to buy real estate and luxury automobiles, including a Ferrari and a Maserati. The government has restrained real estate purchased by Foster in Brooklyn, Manhattan and New Jersey and seized numerous luxury automobiles and bank accounts that he controlled. enry Wadsworth Longfellow once wrote, The heights by great men reached and kept, were not obtained by sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night. This statement, old and rustic as it may be, should be the rule, in my opinion, on how to achieve success. Unfortunately though, many will never fully understand, nor truly grasp the meaning-unless you really want to. What is your legacy? How will the world remember you when you die? Will your children be able to inherit anything, or are you only concerned about having a man in your bed at night? Needless to say, one must be willing to sacrifice, focus and stay on course, no matter what life throws at you. Difficult as this may be, the legacy that we leave, not only for ourselves, but also for our children, should be in the forefront of our minds each day. A clear vision, mixed with the ability to dream, and dream BIG should be our passion. I am a true believer in my vision, even if no one else is. They will come around, is my motto: and they have. My belief, as I have stated many times before in this column, is that God should be the only one who is able to deny me my wishes. This however, must be coupled with hard work, as a dream needs not only support, but also your genuine focus-even if you lose some friends along the way. So Sandy, you mean to God seh yuh not coming out wid us tonight of all nights? my girlfriends complained to me over the past year, almost each Saturday night. How yuh so boring? How are you ever going to find somebody cooped up in your house in front of de computer? No man, you guys just go ahead as I have a lot of work to do, I would say to them. This has been my life for the last two years; constant work, no fun and almost no sex. Almost celibacy is not bad! You should try it sometimes, as it keeps me focused! During the year, while I concentrated on nothing but the completion my book and my work, it certainly has made me appreciate the value of hard work. I have also finally come to realize that yes, hard work does pay off.

During a recent trip to Jamaica, to do a light promotion for my book Whose Vagina Is It, Really?-the book that consumed my every waking minute-never before did this statement manifest itself so strongly to me. Now that I have tun it up as we say in Jamaica, with my hot new underwear line, I have less time for tomfoolery or any situation that takes my focus away. Unfortunately, this goes for my private life as well. Should I break up with my new man in order to re-focus more now on my career and this new venture? Will he understand that from now on, his time with me will be extremely limited? Unfortunately for him, that is the legacy that I am fighting to achieve, to pass on to my children and if he does not understand, then the relationship will be terminated by me. Now officially dubbed as the Vagina Lady, and with requests from major media and news outlet, I am glad that I toiled away and sweated during those lonely, dreary and depressing Saturday nights in front of the computer. Lee, me see Sandy inna de Sunday Gleaner last week big big, said my aunt from Jamaica, while on the phone a few nights ago. And all the church ladies want a vagina book, she continued to say. Church ladies with a vagina book? I queried myself internally, while I listened on three way to my aunt and mom while they conversed.

Isnt there some sort of rule against that? Oh Lawd! For sure now I am going to hell, I said to myself. I will just have to explain to God on my day of reckoning, that it was my way of bringing the women closer to an understanding of themselves. The Lord will probably crook his head to one side, raise his eyebrows and say, But Sandy, yuh couldnt find another way to achieve your goal maam? I know vagina is not a bad word, but you could have easily given them more quotes from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow! Next time Lord! Mek mi secures my legacy first!

homas Komasa, 47, and his wife Heidi Komasa, 39, Saugerties, New York, were on Friday (June 29) convicted on charges stemming from an alleged mortgage fraud scheme. As previously reported on Mortgage Fraud Blog, on May 27, 2010, a federal grand jury in Burlington, Vermont returned a ten-count indictment charging the Komasas with conspiracy and mail, wire and bank fraud. According to the indictment, between 2004 and 2006, the Komasas made false statements and used falsified documentation to obtain mortgage loans to buy and refinance five parcels of residential real estate in Chittenden County, Vermont. The couple allegedly bought the properties for investment purposes, with the intention of reselling them in a rising real estate market. According to the indictment, the Komasas obtained more than $2 million in loans for which they otherwise were not qualified by, among other things, inflating the income they reported in mortgage applications; overvaluing assets and understating liabilities; and supplying falsified documentation concerning their financial affairs to the lending institutions. The Komasas resold one of the five properties in 2006 for a small profit. However, they were unable to maintain

Chief Justice John Roberts joined the Supreme Courts four liberals Thursday to uphold the linchpin of President Barack Obamas plan to expand health coverage to nearly all Americans, a surprise conclusion to a constitutional showdown. I am pleased by the Supreme Courts decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act, which provides coverage to millions of uninsured Americans who have been denied access to medical treatment because of preexisting medical conditions or rising costs, stated Representative Clarke on Thursday. As I have said on many occasions, I firmly believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right and not a privilege! The ruling means that small businesses, seniors, young people, and Americans who have been discriminated against by insurance companies will continue to have access to coverage. Clarke noted that an analysis done in March 2012 showed that thousands of people in the 11th Congressional District were already benefiting from the Affordable Care

This is a triumphant day for America, however, despite todays historic ruling, there are many opponents who are determined to have this law repealed. ubstance Abuse among teenagers is a growing epidemic and according to a recent study, is considered Americas #1 public health problem. Teenagers abuse a variety of drugs that are both legal and illegal. Legally available drugs include alcohol, prescribed medications, inhalants (fumes from glues, aerosols, and solvents) and over-the-counter cough, cold, sleep, and diet medications. The most commonly used illegal drugs are marijuana (pot), stimulants (cocaine, crack, and speed), LSD, PCP, opiates, heroin, and designer drugs (Ecstasy). The use of illegal drugs is increasing, especially among young teens. The average age of first marijuana use is 14, and alcohol use can start before age 12. The use of marijuana and alcohol in high school has become common. Teenagers at risk for substance abuse include those with a family history of substance abuse, who have low selfesteem, who feel hopelessly alienated, as if they don't fit in, or who are depressed. Factors associated with greater potential for drug abuse are called risk factors, while those associated with reduced potential for abuse are called protective factors. Even if an individual may be at risk for drug abuse, this does not mean they will start using drugs or become addicted.

Also, a risk factor for one person may not be for another. Risk factors can influence drug abuse in several ways. They may be additive: The more risks a child is exposed to, the more likely the child will abuse drugs. Some risk factors are particularly potent, yet may not influence drug abuse unless certain conditions prevail. For instance, having a family history of substance abuse puts a child at risk for drug abuse. A protective factor for another child will do the opposite: growing up in an environment with no drug-abusing peers and strong antidrug norms will make that child less likely to become a drug abuser. Other protective factors are parental support and involvement that counteracts the negative influences of having substance-abusing peers. The most obvious sign of substance abuse is a radical change in behavior. For example, symptoms may include increased secretiveness or sudden nervousness or aggression although substances may vary in the type of symptoms expressed. Substance abuse problems may also exist with other diagnoses and when this occurs, is called dual diagnoses. A dual diagnosis is given to someone who has both a substance abuse problem and an emotional or psychiatric disorder. In order for the teenager to fully recover, he or she must be treated for both problems.

pansexual is defined as an individual who is attracted to other people regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. The word pansexual stems from the Greek prefix "pan", which translated to English means all. Pansexualism is also a theory in Freudian psychology that proposes all desire and interest stems from the sex instinct. Individuals who define themselves as pansexual can also refer to themselves as gender blind, omnisexual or gender fluid. This doesnt mean they are promiscuous or attracted to everyone; rather, that they do not consider the gender of their target of affection as consequential. Pansexuals may be monogamous or polyamorous, meaning having more than one partner. How does Pansexuality differ from other sexual orientations? Individuals who define themselves as pansexual differ from those who define themselves as bisexual in that bisexuality is a gender based binary definition. Heterosexuals are attracted to members of the opposite sex, homosexuals to the same sex and bisexuals to both sexes. Pansexuals, on the other hand, can also be attracted to the intersex (individuals who are both male and female and previously called hermaphrodites), transsexuals (individuals who undergo a sex-change operation) and transgender (individuals who vary from their traditional gender roles). Bisexuality and other forms of sexualities are thought to focus on what the target of affection is; whereas pansexuality refers to attraction based on who the person is. This attraction can be sexual or romantic. Pansexuality can be expanded to encompass sexuality with non-humans, although this is not the case for all pansexuals.

What is Pansexuality?

WWW.STREETHYPENEWSPAPER.COM ARIES (Mar. 21 Apr. 19): Your life may be more complicated than it appears, yet you don't want anyone to see how much you are keeping to yourself. Restraining your impulsive behavior is wise because your need for independence clashes with your current desire to build lasting relationships. No reason to share all your thoughts and fantasies with anyone else unless that's what you really want to do. TAURUS (Apr. 20 May 20): You have an uncanny sense about the right thing to do in a relationship. Choosing the responsible path over a more playful one may not be a lot of fun, but you can still feel good about acting in a self-disciplined manner. Being practical is not flashy, but it enables you to prepare for the future, which ultimately can bring you an enduring satisfaction. GEMINI (May 21 Jun. 20): Even the strongest dose of common sense may not be sufficient to keep you on task because you are so easily distracted by the light of your own brilliance. A unique approach to your current job might enable you to make a long-awaited breakthrough. Keep refocusing on your goals if you want to achieve success. CANCER (Jun. 21 Jul. 22): It's difficult to express your feelings when you find yourself in a deep discussion with a powerful person. Your fear of rejection might tempt you to withdraw to protect your security. Be patient, it becomes more natural to speak your mind once your changing moods begin to settle down. Take time to listen to your heart.

WEEKLY HOROSCOPE
LEO (Jul. 23Aug. 22): Your expectations are very high and increasing the chances of being let down by a close friend or family member. If someone very close to you seems to have lost her way, lending a sympathetic ear is better now than trying to make a heroic rescue. Concentrate on reaching your goals and setting an example for others to follow. VIRGO (Aug. 23 Sept. 22): Most tasks handed off to you are potential opportunities for you to develop a new and exciting method that saves everyone time. It's crucial to know when to quit or you could spend the entire day seeking the next great breakthrough. Demonstrate your keen intelligence by choosing which path makes the most sense now for the job at hand. LIBRA (Sept. 23 Oct.22): Enjoy your newly found freedom and explore different ways to express yourself. Keep in mind that you still need to be a bit cautious or you'll end up wasting time on an unrealistic idea that leads you in circles. Your chances for success are greatly enhanced by your confident attitude and your extra effort. SCORPIO (Oct. 23Nov. 21): You're able to shine your light brightly because you can see great potential wherever you look. Blind optimism is not a wise strategy; it only inflates and then dashes your expectations. Your willingness to assume the best outcome could open one door after another to opportunities that you would have just walked by at another time in your life.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 Dec.21): You're not particularly interested in undertaking a major project by yourself. You might expect it to be easy to find someone willing to work with you, but everyone seems to be too busy now. Don't give up searching for a business or personal partner. Accepting less than you want may seem wise in the moment, but it's even better to wait for the right person. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 Jan. 19): Your unwavering belief in a positive outcome goes a long way to attracting people that truly care about you. Your cheerful attitude has more influence than you realize, making it difficult for anyone to harbor negativity in your presence. You can be confident without going into denial. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 Feb. 18): You might be so confident that you think you can do everything. Spreading yourself too thin makes it impossible to finish even the simplest chores. Don't be so blinded by your own illuminating ideas that you lose sight of the practical realities that still govern your life. It's more important now to be responsible than it is to act like a genius. PISCES (Feb. 19 Mar. 20): You could be undecided about a significant personal issue because you can see it from both sides now. Your enthusiasm tempts you to say yes and jump wholeheartedly into the new project, but your heightened common sense is screaming no. Forcing a decision only leads you to change your mind farther down the road, so take your time before making a final choice.

By Caron Beesley hether it's downloading and sharing company confidential information (a hot topic these days), manipulating expense reports, or stealing merchandiseemployee theft and fraud is a serious issue for business owners. In fact, studies show that occupational fraud now results in the loss of five percent of an organizatio-s annual revenue. Here are some tips for preventing and managing employee theft or occupational fraud. Use Pre-Employment Background Checks Wisely One of the first steps to preventing fraudulent employee behavior is to make the right hiring decision. Basic pre-employment background checks are a good business practice for any employer, especially for those employees who will be handling cash, high-value merchandise, or have access to sensitive customer or financial data. This Guide to PreEmployment Background Checks from Business.gov outlines the types of information that you can consult as part of a pre-employment check, and the laws that govern their use. I's worth noting, that the law varies from state to state on whether a private employer can consider an applican's criminal history in making hiring decisions. Check with your local EEOC office for the laws in your area before going down this path.

Check Candidate References I's always surprising how very few employers reach out to check candidate references' often assuming that a reference will never be anything but glowing. However, i's good practice to check references' particularly those of former employers or supervisors. If your candidate has a history of fraudulent behavior' then yo'll want to know about it, before you hand them a job offer.
