INTRODUCTION
Leadership has been described as the process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task". Other indepth definitions of leadership have also emerged. Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. Good leaders are made not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. The world has seen many great leaders in many fields and they became the source of inspiration like Gandhi, J. Kennedy, Bill Gates, Henry ford etc

Two prominent leaders are Steve Jobs & N.R Narayana Murthy and they have inspired a lot of people with their leadership qualities.

A true leader is one who leads by example & sacrifice more than else, in his or her, pursuit of excellence
-N.R.Narayan Murthy, Chairman, Infosys

Innovation distinguishes between a leader & a follower

-Steve Jobs, Ex CEO, Apple Inc

BACKGROUND NOTE
STEVE JOBS:Steven Paul Jobs (February 24, 1955 October 5, 2011) was an American businessman and inventor widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution. He was co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs was co-founder and previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney

NARAYANA MURTHY:Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy (August 20, 1946-Present),, better known as N. R. Narayana Murthy, is an Indian industrialist and software engineer. He and six other engineers founded Infosys in 1981. Mr. Murthy served as CEO from 1981 to 2002. From 2002 to 2011, he served as Chairman. In 2011, he became Chairman Emeritus.

STEVE JOBS AS A LEADER

Several character traits/qualities of Jobs:

Self-confidence: intimidating high Trustworthiness: probably low, if the mentioned secrecy he exhibits in dealing with the world outside the company is in any way a reflection of how he deals with flow of information within the company (which is likely, since many projects remain incredible enough, secret until they are unveiled, like exemplified in the recent introduction of the iPad).

Authenticity: true authenticity is based on self-reflection, which requires a degree of humility we can safely assume from the already analysed not to be found in Jobs. Extraversion: his self-confidence may at first be mistaken for extraversion; however, extraversion in a socially interested way appears not to be extractable from the above analysis. Assertiveness : the description of how he runs meetings and the aggression with which he motivates his employees speaks for a high degree of assertiveness. Enthusiasm: his speeches and his entrepreneurial behavior indicate a large degree of enthusiasm. Innovation:-Jobs had a vision which was innovative by default but he knew that the process of innovation must never stop in the face of never-ending competition in the market he operated in. He could have easily rested on his laurels and been content with them but that would not have been 'Steve Jobs' who always wanted to Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish. For him, innovation was something of paramount importance and he placed it much before other things. It was through his innovation approach that we have cult products like the iPod, iPhone and iPad. At the same time he was all for recognizing good ideas propounded by others and then incorporating them into Apple products. PASSION:-Jobs was a very passionate man.He loved his work. It was his passion that made him an innovator and a person who can inspires others Focus:- He was a very focused man.He knew his job, his role and how he can achieve his goal

NARAYANA MURTHY AS A LEADER

Agent Of Change: A leader is an agent of change, and progress is about change. Leadership is about raising the aspirations of followers and enthusing people with a desire to reach for the stars. For instance, Mahatma Gandhi created a vision for independence in India and raised the aspirations of our people . Adversity: A leader has to raise the confidence of followers. He should make them understand that tough

times are part of life and that they will come out better at the end of it. He has to sustain their hope, and their energy levels to handle the difficult days. According to him, a leader has to sustain followers' hopes and their energy levels to handle the difficult days. Values: The leader has to create hope. He has to create a plausible story about a better future for the organisation: everyone should be able to see the rainbow and catch a part of it. This requires creating trust in people. And to create trust, the leader has to subscribe to a value system: a protocol for behavior that enhances the confidence, commitment and enthusiasm of the people. Compliance to a value system creates the environment for people to have high aspirations, self esteem, belief in fundamental values, confidence in the future and the enthusiasm necessary to take up apparently difficult tasks. Leaders have to walk the talk and demonstrate their commitment to a value system. Enhancing trust: Trust and confidence can only exist where there is a premium on transparency. The leader has to create an environment where each person feels secure enough to be able to disclose his or her mistakes, and resolves to improve. Integrity: Strong leadership in adverse times helps win the trust of the stakeholders, making it more likely that they will stand by you in your hour of need As leaders who dream of growth and progress, integrity is your most wanted attribute. Work Life Balance: Mr Murthy doesn't really identify with the concept of work life balance. He had once said, First let's make a life, then think about work-life balance. I don't understand the concept of a work-life balance.

Performance Oriented: He is a man who always measures performance against value. According to Murthy peoples performance in the knowledge industry is as valuable as gold. Thus by introducing ESOPs he motivated his employees to work smart and hard. Pioneer in HRM: Mr. Murthy says that his is an HR-based industry. Software is a knowledge business hence the focus is shifted to Brainware. It was he who started ESOPs that is real distribution of wealth. Now it is very common in the industry to have ESOPs but it has done wonders in Infosys. Thus Narayana Murthy is honestly awe-inspiring role model for professionals.

CONCLUSION

From the above mention leadership quality of Mr. N.R. Narayana Murthy and Mr. Steven Paul Jobs holds the Trait Theories of Leadership because these theories consider personal qualities and characteristics that differentiate leaders from non leaders. Both of them is described as persistent, sensitive to the needs of others, hardworking, innovative, enthusiastic, energetic,de cisive and risk-taking. Mr. N.R.Narayana Murthy also hold a Behavioral theories, Employee- oriented leader of Michigan which emphasized interpersonal relationships by taking a personal interest in the needs of employees and accepting individual differences among them that is Workers at Infosys are perhaps among the happiest people in Infosys in terms of salary, work environment and As far as my views are concerned both Steve Jobs and Narayana Murthy are CHARISMATIC LEADERS. Steve Jobs was UNCONVENTIONAL LEADER where as Mr. Murthy is a CONVENTIONAL LEADER. Mr. Murthy has a strong education background which helped him having theoretical knowledge which he implemented in practice whereas Mr. Jobs was a college dropout but had eagerness to learn and this drive made him a leader who was different, innovative and a person who was a TRANSFORMATI-NAL LEADER
