DoInk Animation/Blogging Lesson Title: DoInk Animation and Blog Share Lesson Overview: Students will create an animation,

minimum ten seconds in length, using DoInk with a combination of drawn and provided props that uses the element of art movement. Once created, the finished product will be shared on the class blog and students will comment on each others creations. Subject Area/Grade Level: Art/ Grade 6 PA State Arts and Humanities Standards: 9.1.5. A., B., C., D., E., H., J., K. 9.3.5. A., B., C., D., F. Lesson Objectives (SWBAT): view drawing and animation tutorials for DoInk.com complete steps 1-11 on TES DoInk worksheet sketch three possible ideas for an animation apply understanding of the element of art movement to an original animation using DoInk.com create animation using both an original drawing that you created and at least one provided prop from DoInk.com create an animation that is a minimum of 10 seconds in length post completed animation on class blog comment on at least two other peoples animations including one positive piece of feedback and noting one area of improvement Lesson Procedure: 1. Ask students to raise their hands if they have ever watched anything animated. 2. Brainstorm a list of animated things they have seen or like on the board as a class. 3. Poll students by asking them to raise their hands to see who has ever made an animation before and if anyone has, ask how they did it. 4. Poll students to see if anyone has heard of DoInk.com. 5. Use digital projector to show students what DoInk.com looks like when they go to the site. Take them through showing them how to register using their school email. Show tutorial videos to class, both drawing and animation. 6. Go to computer lab, or pass out computers from mobile lab and talk them through doing the registration themselves. Allow students time to play with DoInk and view some examples. 7. Hand out DoInk introductory TES lesson and review steps with students. 8. Allow students to work with a partner while completing the handout to familiarize themselves with the various DoInk tools. 9. When throbbing heart animation is completed from worksheet ask students to share their finished example on class blog. 10. Pass out brainstorming sketch paper for their animation. Inform students of the remaining lesson objectives listed above and show them how they will be assessed on the completion of this lesson (below). 11. Students will brainstorm their ideas for their animation. 12. Students will create animation using DoInk.com. 13. Students will share completed animations on class blog.

Materials: computers- 1 per student printout of TES DoInk worksheet- 1/student brainstorming paper pencils digital projector internet connection school email Website: DoInk.com teacher example of animation class blog Animation Lesson Resources- Below is a list of other resources found on the web about animation that are also either appropriate for the 5th and 6th grade level or could be adapted for that level. Thaumatropes- by Amy Leigh Johnson an art and technology teacher TES Worksheet on DoInk- This is the worksheet mentioned in the lesson above. DoInk Interviews an Animation Artist- This would go nicely with the lesson to show students and example of an actual animation artist. The animations this artist creates are also pretty humorous. Video on Uses for DoInk in other Subject Areas- Shows examples for math, science, and language arts. Video on iPad DoInk App Ideas- Shows younger students using the DoInk iPad app to create simple animations.
