3.0 3.1

GENERAL All Electrical Cable Ladder shall be NEMA Type 20C or Type 8C or IEC equivalent and shall be designed, manufactured and tested as per the latest edition of NEMA standard VE 1 or BS 2782. Maximum rung spacing shall not exceed 300 mm, center to center. The depths of the ladder shall be not less than 100 mm from top of rung to top of ladder or less than 150 mm overall depth. Cable Ladder lengths may be either 3 meters (10 ft.) or 6 meters (20 ft). EMEPMI may however consider accepting non-NEMA/BS standard lengths, if the vendor proposes such. Cable ladder widths shall be 150mm (6"), 225mm (9"), 300mm (12"), 450mm (18"), 600mm (24") and 900mm (36") as specified in the detailed material takeoff or on the requisition. The ladder shall be Class C, that is designed to support a linear loading of 150 kg/m, with a maximum deflection of 50 mm, based on a 6-meter span length. The cable ladder interior shall not have any projections or sharp edges.

316 STAINLESS STEEL CABLE LADDER All 316 SS Cable Ladder shall meet all the criteria in the preceding Section 3.0. The rungs on the this ladder shall be fillet welded on all topside intersections of rung and side rail. The ladder shall be fabricated using 2-mm (minimum) 316L stainless steel, with 316L or 308 SS welding rod. All materials, including bolts, nuts and washers shall be 316 SS Vendor shall supply all hold-down clamps, connection plates, grounding jumpers (required across each connection plate) and bolts, nuts and washers. Connection plates should be 8 bolt. Grounding jumpers shall be made from single stranded copper conductor, green PVC insulated, with a one-hole lug on each end. Nominal conductor size shall be 70-mm sq. (2/0 AWG) unless otherwise indicated in the purchase order or on the drawings. All holes necessary for tray assembly, including any holes for grounding jumpers, shall be vendor's responsibility. Cable ladder fabrication shall incorporate proper welding procedures to ensure strong welds and no discoloration of welded material or weld splatters. Vendor shall submit a welding procedure which shall be reviewed and approved by the EMEPMI Inspection Department. Vendor shall produce a sample section of cable ladder and fittings for EMEPMI approval prior to beginning quantity manufacture of cable ladder. EMEPMI reserves the right to witness the performance of the NEMA tests, prior to giving approval of the cable ladder.

All ladder fittings including tees, crosses, 45 and 90-degree horizontal and vertical bends shall use 150mm (6") C-channel members with concentric curved molded design. Resin systems may be Isopthalic Polyester, Modar or Vinylester as required. Connector plates should be fiberglass and designed with sufficient strength so they may be installed between 20 and 30 percent of the length of the span from the support without derating the load carrying capacity of the cable ladder. EMEPMI prefers 8 bolt connector plates. 316 Stainless Steel connector plates are also acceptable. Fasteners for connector plates, studs, washers, lock washers and nuts shall all be 20mm (3/4") diameter 316 SS, Silicon Bronze or FPR as required. When 316 SS connector plates are supplied all hardware shall be 316 SS. The glass fiber to resin content shall be maintained between 45 to 55 percent by weight in all protruded components except flat sheets which shall have 30 to 40 percent. All molded components shall maintain 25 to 45 percent fiber to resin content. All composite material shall have an ultraviolet light inhibiting chemical additive and shall meet ASTM E-84; maximum 25 flame spread (Class 1 rating) or BS 476 : Part 7 - Class 1 rating. Cable ladder shall be weather resistant in accordance with BS 2782 Part 5 and have tensile strength, elongation and elastic modulus in accordance with BS 2782 Part 3. All protruded products shall have a complete surfacing veil coverage of outer surfacing fabric to provide maximum chemical and UV protection. The Manufacturer shall be capable of providing all necessary accessories such as clamps, support assemblies, etc. required for installation of the cable ladder system. The manufacturer shall provide complete instructions to allow the installing contractor to make 'field cuts' on the ladder as required for installation. The Vendor shall supply the required resin paint to allow touch-up of the fiberglass cable ladder system particularly to those items that have been field cut or trimmed. The Manufacturer shall quote a price to provide a representative to advise on the installation to ensure that the quality of the cable ladder installation is maintained.
