ANACTLOWERINGTHEAGEOFMAJORITYFROMTWENTYONETOEIGHTEEN YEARS AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBERED TWO HUNDREDNINE,ANDFOROTHERPURPOSES Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congressassembled: SECTION 1. Article 234 of Executive Order No. 209, the Family Code of the Philippines,isherebyamendedtoreadasfollows: "ART. 234. Emancipation takes place by the attainment of majority. Unless otherwiseprovided,majoritycommencesattheageofeighteenyears." SEC.2.Article236ofthesameCodeisalsoherebyamendedtoreadasfollows: ART. 236.Emancipation shallterminate parentalauthority overthe personand propertyofthechildwhoshallthenbequalifiedandresponsibleforallactsof civillife,savetheexceptionsestablishedbyexistinglawsinspecialcases. "Contracting marriage shall require parental consent until the age of twenty one." "Nothing in this Code shall be construed to derogate from the duty of responsibilityofparentsandguardiansforchildrenandwardsbelowtwentyone yearsofagementionedinthesecondandthirdparagraphsofArticle2180ofthe CivilCode." SEC.4.UpontheeffectivityofthisAct,existingwills,bequests,donations,grants, insurancepoliciesandsimilarinstrumentsreferencesandprovisionsfavorabletominor willnotretroacttotheirprejudice.
