Mario Alberto Tobas Rincn Reading Processes September 5th, 2006 Reading Report: 3 Teaching Phonics, Sight Words,

and Syllabic Analysis 1. Before they start to read, students should be taught all of the Through reading, teachers can teach the consonant letters and their sounds. It is important for the students to know how each consonant is pronounced, but it is not a must to teach them before starting reading. As long as the consonant letters have less changes in pronunciation, teachers should teach them first than the vowels. 2. Phonics rules have so many exceptions that they are not worth Even though there are exceptions, phonics should be taught since students, within time, will realize what the exceptions are. By learning phonics, students start making patterns in their minds, so whenever a word is spelled, they will be able to pronounce them correctly. This will bring a lot of experience. 3. Phonics is hard to learn because English is so irregular. It is not that hard since patterns are going to be taught little by little. Obviously, if we want to teach all the exceptions and rules for pronouncing in a school year, everything will be difficult for students. Therefore, as everything is going to be taught at a specific period of time, students will surely succeed in learning phonics. 4. letter. teaching.

It all depends on the student. Every student has his/her own way of decoding a letter, that is, s/he has his/her own system of how a word should be pronounced. It could either be sound by sound or letter by letter. 5. Memorizing is an inefficient way to learn new words. It is inefficient if we just want our students to memorize words because we cannot do something else. Instead, if a teacher makes his students learn words in a context, by pictures, etc. students will not need to memorize them. The way they are going to remember words is by using them in a context, and it all depends on us teachers. 6. Syllabication is not necessary until students begin to encounter a Exactly. Students will need syllabication until the words have a lot of syllables. Before, they should be taught patterns, so they could realize how a word is written and pronounced. 7. Syllabication is not a very useful skill because you have to know how It is useful, but it requires a lot of practice before. That is why phonics is very important, by teaching it first, syllabication will be taught easily later on. Students will have developed these skills if the process is taught properly.
