Our nation is in a troubled state today because the prices of basic commodities from food to fuel have skyrocketed

beyond the means of our ever increasing population, a scenario filled with gloom and doom. 48.6% of the total Indian population falls below the poverty line But if the indicia of poverty is high, something else beats that. When it comes to the indicia of corruption, we are truly world -class. The latest survey of Transparency International ranks our country the 4th most corrupt country in the Asia-pacific. India tops the list for black money in the entire world with almost US$1456 billion in Swiss banks (approximately USD 1.4 trillion) in the form of black money.[11] According to the data provided by the Swiss Banking Association Report India has more black money than the rest of the world combined. To put things in perspective, Indian-owned Swiss bank account assets are worth 13 times the countrys national debt. Regardless of economic developments in terms of GDP, the single most negative impact on all our efforts at progress and development has been corruption. Corruption so massive in scale and so endemic in scope. There is petty corruption committed every day, by lowly clerks and lowly examiners, by cops and traffic aides. There is corruption in road transportation agencies, where driving licenses are given even to the blind . Police generals, along with mayors, governors and congressmen tolerate illegal gambling; some even operate it themselves. Fiscals are fixed by the rich to file cases against the poor, no matter if innocent. And judges deny justice for money, or pressure from the powerful, mostly both. Scams due to corruption have become an annual feature of dis nation This is an era where programs and projects were crafted with public need and public good in mind. And corruption is a by-product. This means that corruption could make you gain a lot but it also means that you deprive certain people of a lot. So pervasive is the corruption that its cancer has metastasized all over the body politic. Almost everybody and everything has become transactional a legislators vote or his verbosity in defense of the mafia, even judicial decisions. And of course, that which is called the foundation of democratic rule elections. So where do we go from here? Can we ever put an end to corruption? We are where we are now mired in corruption, because in the past and up to the present, we as a people tolerated small bribe, be it the of cops or for clerks in regulatory and licensing agencies. We took bribing as normal and accepted the corruption of our officials by a way of life.

To its credit, the government has begun to take action by introducing the lokpall bill which wld be an independent system who would fight corruption,bt wat if pl in dese agencies r demselves corrupted..??. A law would not help in eradicating corruption it would only create a fear in d minds of d corruptor bt wld not stop him frm taking bribes. At the end of the day, for all of us, there is a responsibility to the next generation and to the future India, to redeem our nation from the curse of corruption. There is a cancer of corruption that we must extinguish.
