DoctorS Survey

Dear Resident During May 2012 I wrote to all medical clinics and General Practitioners in the Denison electorate and surrounds, inviting them to participate in a Doctors Survey. The survey consisted of a series of questions regarding the services they provide, whether they offer bulk billing and to whom it is available to, the cost of a standard consultation, opening hours and whether they were accepting new patients. Whilst all medical clinics and General Practitioners were invited to take part, not all chose to participate. For this reason, I have only provided the details of those who provided responses. My aim in providing this Doctors Survey is to keep you informed on health services available in your area. The Australian Government is committed to helping families gain access to professional health care advice. Through the after hours GP helpline Tasmanians can contact a health care professional during the night, on weekends, and on public holidays. GP helpline is a free service from landlines within Australia and will operate between 6pm and 8am Monday to Friday, 6pm Friday to 8am Monday, and on all national and state/ territory public holidays. You can access the after hours GP helpline on 1800 022 222. The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program has now been extended to provide regular five yearly screening for people between 50 and 70 years of age. $49.3 million will be invested to extend the National Bowel Screening Program to include screens for people turning 60 years of age in 2013 an 70 years of age in 2015. Latest census data shows 15.3% of people in Denison are over the age of 60 and therefore eligible for these screenings. Those eligible will be sent an invitation package including a FOBT kit in the mail. Bowel screening saves lives screening at regular intervals will pick up around 12,000 positive tests and save between 300 and 500 lives annually. Transport 2 Treatment
Did you know Cancer Council Tasmania offer a cancer patient transport system? transport 2 treatment provides transport options to cancer patients and their carers who need to travel for treatment and/ or medical appointments. This service is funded by Relay For Life and relies on the generous support of volunteer drivers and sponsors. To learn more about the service you can visit www.cancertas.org.au or contact Cancer Council Tasmania on 1800 063 347.
