(Recited when there is no opening song)

I ask blessed Mar y everVirgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. P Lord, have mercy. All Lord, have mercy. Gloria All Glor y to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glor y. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glor y of God the Father. Amen. Opening Prayer P Let us pray [for forgiveness through the grace of Jesus Christ]. (Pause) F a t h e r, t h r o u g h t h e obedience of Jesus, your ser vant and your Son, you raised a fallen world. Free us from sin and bring us the joy that lasts for ever. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. All Amen. LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading (Sit) God does not give up on his rebel lious people. He sends Ezekiel to call them to a change of heart.

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel (2:2-5) AS THE Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me: Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have revolted against me to this very day. Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you. But you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord God! And whether they heed or resistfor they are a rebellious housethey shall know that a prophet has been among them. The word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm (Ps 123) R Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy.

Our eyes are fixed on the Lord,

(The sign of the cross is made here)

P The grace and peace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God who became man and lived among us, be always with you. All And with your Spirit. Introduction
(May be read using these or other similar words)

P We often seek God in the spectacular. The sun rises and sets ever y day, attesting to Gods providential care, but we prefer to look for God in the dancing sun. We pray for miracles of healingall the while that God heals us of our bodily and spiritual ailments through the sacraments and the help of loving people. Because Jesus appears as an ordinary man, the people of his native Nazareth take offense at him. They think he cannot be a prophet of God because he is simply one of their neighbors. The spectacular invites awe and fear; Jesus chooses to reveal himself in the ordinary because it inspires us to greater love and care. Penitential Rite P Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. (Pause) All I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore

1. To you I lift up my eyes/ who are enthroned in heaven/ as the eyes of servants/ are on the hands of their masters. (R) 2. As the eyes of a maid/ are on the hands of her mistress,/ so are our eyes on the Lord, our God,/ till he have pity on us. (R) 3. Have pity on us, O Lord, have pity on us,/ for we are more than sated with contempt;/ our souls are more than sated/ with the mockery of the arrogant,/ with the contempt of the proud. (R) Second Reading Paul is given extraordinar y revelations, but he is content with weakness because in it, the power of Christ is made more manifest. BROTHERS AND SISTERS: That I, Paul, might not become too elated, because of the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, My grace is suf ficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. The word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God. Alleluia [cf. Lk 4:18] (Stand) All Alleluia, alleluia! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me for he sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor. Alleluia, alleluia! Gospel (Mk 6:1-6) P The Lord be with you. All And with your Spirit. P A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark. All Glor y to you, Lord. JESUS depar ted from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house. So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on

them. He was amazed at their lack of faith. The Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Homily (Sit) Profession of Faith (Stand) All I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was cr ucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day, he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resur rection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of the Faithful P Let us pray to our heavenly Father that we may be open to his message no matter how it comes to our lives. Let us say: R Lord, open our hearts to your Word. C That those who work for the Gospel may not measure themselves by the success, relevance, and spectacle of their ministry but by their love for the Lord and their care for his flock, we pray: (R) C That Church, government, and civil leaders may listen to, rather than oppose or silence, the prophets of our times who appeal to our conscience and challenge our values, we pray: (R) C That the people of God may listen to the hard but liberating message of God rather than to voices that appeal to comfort and convenience, we pray: (R) C That the Lord may bless those who earn their living

through diligent and honest work, keep in safety those assigned to dangerous places, and inspire everyone to work for mutual understanding and peace, we pray: (R) C That we may experience the love and care of the Lord in the ordinar y events of life, in the beauty and providence of nature, in the love of our family and neighbors, in our little joys and successes, we pray: (R) C (The urgent concerns of the community are prayed here.) P Father of mercies, guide us to see your presence in everything we do, that we may act according to the ways of your Son. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. All Amen. LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST Presentation of the Gifts (Stand) P Pray, brethren All May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glor y of his name, for our good, and the good of all his Church. Prayer over the Gifts P Lord, let this offering to the glory of your name purify us and bring us closer to eternal life. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. All Amen. Preface (Ordinary I) P The Lord be with you. All And with your Spirit. P Lift up your hearts. All We lift them up to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All It is right to give him thanks and praise. P Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and ever ywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Vatican II Catechesis
Fr. James h. Kroeger, MM

Message to Academics and Scientists

The Second Vatican Council sent a very special greeting to seekers after truth, people of thought and science, explorers of humanity, of the universe, and of history. This special message was sent, because the participants of the Council, like academics and scientists, are always on the outlook for truth. The four-year Council was a more attentive search for and deepening of the message of truth entrusted to the Church and an effort at more perfect docility to the Spirit of truth. The Church and academics serve humanity through their collaboration. We are the friends of your vocation as searchers, companions in your fatigues, admirers of your successes and, if necessary, consolers in your discouragement and your failures. The Council encouraged these truth-seekers and reiterated words of Saint Augustine: Let us seek with the desire to find, and find with the desire to seek still more. Prayer after Communion (Stand) P Let us pray. (Pause) Lord, may we never fail to praise you for the fullness of life and salvation you give us in this Eucharist. We ask this through Christ our Lord. All Amen. CONCLUDING RITE P The Lord be with you. All And with your Spirit. Prayer over the People and Blessing P Bow your heads and pray for Gods blessing. (Pause) Lord, come, live in your people and strengthen them by your grace. Help them to remain close to you in prayer. Give them true and perfect love for one another. Grant this through Christ our Lord. All Amen. P And may the blessing of almighty God, () the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come upon you and remain with you for ever. All Amen. Dismissal P In this Eucharist, Jesus has revealed to us the love that comes from God our Father. Go and share this love with others. All Thanks be to God.
