Week 4 Day 1

SCRIPTURE MEMORY : PHILIPPIANS 4:6 (HCSB) Dont worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 1. Two Kinds of Asking Prayers i. _____________________________________________________ ii. 2. _____________________________________________________

What is the purpose of Asking Prayers? __________________________________________________________

3.

All around the world, God is moving. He is moving mightily where people are praying. Real prayer is difficult. It is hard work. Paul begged the Roman Christians to agonize with him in prayer. Romans 15:30 Now I appeal to you, brothers, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to join with me in fervent prayers to God on my behalf. Matthew 7:7 Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

John 15:7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. John 16:24 Until now you have asked for nothing in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

Week 4 Day 2

1.

PRAYER PROMISE : JOHN 16:23-24 I assure you: Anything you ask the Father in My name, He will give you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. Eight Reasons God answers prayer. i. The prayer seeks to uphold God's honour. Number 14:15-16 If You kill this people with a single blow,[a] the nations that have heard of Your fame will declare, Since the Lord wasnt able to bring this people into the land He swore to give them, He has slaughtered them in the wilderness. ii. The prayer appeals for God's glory. John 12:27-28 How long must I endure this evil community that keeps complaining about Me? I have heard the Israelites complaints that they make against Me. Tell them: As surely as I live, this is the Lords declaration, I will do to you exactly as I heard you say. iii. The prayer appeals to God's character. Number 14:17-19 So now, may my Lords power be magnified just as You have spoken: The Lord is slow to anger and rich in faithful love, 2

forgiving wrongdoing and rebellion. But He will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers wrongdoing on the children to the third and fourth generation. Please pardon the wrongdoing of this people, in keeping with the greatness of Your faithful love, just as You have forgiven them from Egypt until now. iv. The prayer acknowledges God's sovereignty. 2 Kings 19:15 Then Hezekiah prayed before the Lord: Lord God of Israel who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are GodYou aloneof all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth. Now, Lord our God, please save us from his hand so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord GodYou alone. v. Jesus prays for you. Romans 8:34 Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us. vi. The Holy Spirit prays with and for you according to God's will. Romans 8:26-27 The Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. And He who searches the hearts knows the Spirits mind-set, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

vii. Your Father wants to answer the requests of His servants. 1 Kings 8:59-60 May my words I have made my petition with before the Lord be near the Lord our God day and night, so that He may uphold His servants cause and the cause of His people Israel, as each day requires, 60 and so that all the peoples of the earth may know that Yahweh is God. There is no other!

Week 4 Day 3

1.

PRAYER PROMISE : 1 JOHN 3:21-22 Dear friends, if our heart (conscience) doesnt condemn us, we have confidence before God and can receive whatever we ask from Him because we keep His commands and do what is pleasing in His sight. Sins that are Reasons God Doesn't answer prayer. i. Anger / Wrath 1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument. 1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives with an understanding of their weaker nature[a] yet showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. 1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument. Matthew 6:5 Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: Theyve got their reward!

v.

Idolatry

vi. Indifference to Needs

vii. Unforgiveness

Ezekiel 14:3 Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and have put sinful stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I be consulted by them at all? Proverbs 21:13 The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will himself also call out and not be answered. Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive people their wrongdoing, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. But if you dont forgive people, your Father will not forgive your wrongdoing. Matthew 5:23-24 So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Week 4 Day 4

1.

PRAYER PROMISE : JOHN 14:13-14 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. Ten Principles For Asking i. Ask in the Spirit. Pray in the Spirit according to His will. 1 Corinthians 14:15 "I will pray with the spirit" Ephesians 6:18 Pray at all times in the Spirit." ii. Ask according to His will. Ask according to God's will with the help of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26-27 In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us[a] with unspoken groanings. And He who searches the hearts knows the Spirits mind-set, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. iii. Ask with the mind. Keep a pray list to keep your mind from wandering as you pray. It also helps you pray specifically and persistently. 1 Corinthians 14:15 "I will also pray in my mind" iv. Ask in Jesus' name. John 14:14 "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."

v.

Ask while abiding in Christ. Prayer is both a means and a result of abiding in Christ. John 15:7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.

vi. Ask in faith. Ask without doubt in your heart. Believe that the things you ask will come to pass. Recognise God's authority and power to answer as He wishes. Claim a God-given Bible promise and anticipate God's response. Mark 11:22,24 Jesus replied to them, Have faith in God. Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for believe that you have received them, and you will have them. vii. Ask in humility. Praying in humility recognizes your need of God. Come to God recognizing His greatness and your needs. 2 Chronicles 7:14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. viii. Ask in sincerity. Pray genuine and heartfelt prayer. Pray earnestly and fervently. James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. ix. Ask with perseverance. Perseverance means persistence, not giving up. Ephesians 6:18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

x.

Ask using God's words. Quote God's Word to Him.

Week 4 Day 5

1.

PRAYER PROMISE : MATTHEW 18:18-19 I assure you: Whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is already loosed[b] in heaven. Again, I assure you: If two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you[d] by My Father in heaven. United prayer includes a visible union (people gathered together) and an agreement of mind and heart. It is not just human agreement but it involves God in it also. It is only possible through the leadership of the Holy Spirit. When we pray in agreement, we seek His will to be done on earth. Get Into Agreement with God. First take note of the barriers that hinder answered prayer. i. Sin Psalm 66:18 If I had been aware of malice in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. James 1:6-7 But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

iii.

Wrong motives

James 4:2-3 You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and dont receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.

5.

Everyone in your group should be right with the Lord if you want to pray in agreement with Him. Get Into Agreement With Others The early church spent much time praying together with one mind and one heart. Seek Spirit-guided agreement with others in your prayers. Acts 1:14 All these were continually united in prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers. Acts 2:46-47 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude, praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved. Acts 4:32 Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. The church is a body, with every part is dependent on the other parts. We need one another to function properly.

Matthew 5:23-24 So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 7. Seek God's perspective and Pray in Agreement with God. Consider God's viewpoint. Suggestion for Praying Together. Be specific in what you ask of God. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's guidance Check your spirit for confirmation of what others are praying. If a spirit of agreement prevails, express it. If a question or doubt exists, express it. Be honest with one another.
