County Board updated on economic development activities

BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR The private agency that is dedicated to economic development in Washington County is ahead of schedule in meeting several of its goals, the Washington County Board was told July 10. The board received an update on the activities of Economic Development Washington County (EDWC) from Christian Tscheschlok, the executive director of the agency. EDWC is a private entity with an annual budget of $350,000, 43 percent of which is provided by the public sector, 30 percent from the private sector, and 23 percent from internal fees. Tscheschlok (pronounced CHESH-lock) referred to a dashboard of performance that listed the agencys goals between 2011 to 2013 and which is based on projects in which EDWC has been involved. According to agency data, there have been 623 jobs created through EDWC efforts, ahead of the original three-year goal of 400. As a result, Tscheschlok said the EDWC board reviewed the dashboard and set a new goal of fueling 800 jobs in the county by the end of 2013. Also: $64 million in private investment has been generated into the county, surpassing the EDWC goal of $29 million. Tscheschlok said the investment has included equipment and real estate. $8 million in gap funding has been injected, ahead of the 5.4 million goal. Tscheschlok explained that gap funding involves public sector investment, which can include municipalities stepping up with a tax incremental finance (TIF) district or state providing incentives for a project. 23 businesses have been fueled with successful support, ahead of the goal of 19 at this time. 53 private sector businesses have invested in EDWC, on target with its projection for this time period. Tscheschlok then cited a few examples of EDWC involvement in private development. He first cited the development of an expansion of Signicast Investment Casting in Hartford. Tscheschlok explained

that the city of Hartford and the Hartford Area Development Corporation took the lead in the expansion, but EDWC took a larger role when a company official contacted EDWC and indicated that the costs for the Hartford site were too significant and asked EDWC to consider other county locations for its expansion.

By Tresa Erickson You've been working on your home

Taking steps to replace a kitchen floor

for years, and you've saved the best task for last: replacing your kitchen floor. That grungy white ceramic tile has got to go. It won't be easy, but it's got to be done. The time has come for you to roll up your sleeves and get ready to do some hard labor. You will need to gather the proper equipment first. Safety gear is a must. You must wear goggles to protect your eyes from flying shards of tile and kneepads and gloves to protect your knees and hands from bruising as you dispose of the old tile and crawl around the floor. The tile is too worn to save, so your best course of action is to break it up with a small sledgehammer and a towel. You will also need a scraper, either a hand one or a power one, and some floor-leveling compound. To remove the tile, place a towel over a section of it and use the sledgehammer to break it up. Then remove all remaining pieces and adhesive with a hand scraper. If you have a rather large floor, you may want to rent a power scraper. The sharp blade will get under the tile and break it up more easily. When you have finished removing

all of the tile, sweep up all of the residue and dispose of it properly. You will probably have some gaps and gouges in the subfloor. You may fill these with floor-leveling compound. If the subfloor is really damaged, you may need to replace it. Keep in mind that removing the old tile will take time. If you are on a tight schedule, you might want to bring in a professional. They will have the tools and experience necessary to make quick work of the job. Once you have removed the tile and repaired the subfloor, you can move on to the next step of installing the new flooring. The procedure for this will vary, depending upon the type of material you have chosen. Do your homework, take your time and you are sure to end up with a beautiful floor that will last for years to come.

Quit Smoking in 30 minutes

the least amount of side effects that any stopsmoking program can offer. This treatment has a proven success rate of over 85%, and has been successfully used in Europe and Canada with very little publicity here in the United States. This is a program about finally quitting smoking without weight gain and other side effects, and without using other expensive products that continue to keep you addicted to nicotine. Without weight gain, stress and other side effects, this process is accomplished with a low-level light laser. This laser is painlessly applied to the ears, forehead, face, wrists and feet, and takes about 30 minutes. The light is specifically directed at acupuncture sites that help release natural body chemicals to regulate neurotransmitters, endorphins, ATP and hormones. The release of these natural body chemicals reduces cravings, prevents weight gain and lessens withdrawal distress. This is not a psychological treatment. It is a welldocumented physiological, biochemical process that occurs to the cells and body after specific areas of the anatomy are exposed to the proper levels of cold laser beams. (For more scientific detail, please see our website at the FAQ section of quitsmokingin30minutes-wi.com.) Over 2.0 million Americans have quit smoking using laser therapy. For many, laser therapy has been the only method to successfully stop smoking as well as prevent the weight gain and stress usually involved. Our method is effective for all types of nicotine addiction cigarettes, pipes, cigars even chewing tobacco! Our introductory price is $295. This covers the initial treatment and two follow-up treatments if needed. Most people do not require all three. In addition to immediately improving your overall health, at the present cost of cigarettes, you could recoup your money for the laser treatment in as little as 1-2 months! Are you ready to quit smoking? Find out more about this breakthrough treatment at quitsmokingin30minutes-wi.com, or CALL Dr. Douglas Kincaid DPM Toll Free at to get started on a smoke-free life today!
