Analyst / Developer (Oracle) Outline background to the roles As part of the Claims Transformation Programme and associated Claims

MI strategy, Direct Line Group has implemented a business intelligence solution based on Oracle and the SAS BI application. DLG wishes to hire three business-oriented analyst/developers (Oracle) to research, design, and develop a variety of data marts. The job-holders will work closely with SAS developer colleagues who are responsible for delivering an ambitious programme of dashboards, reports, data-mining models and the like. These are pivotal roles, designed to give each job-holder start-to-finish delivery responsibility for their marts. Although technical skills are important, DLG is keen to attract creative analysts who interested in working with data and adding value to the business, for whom technology is a means, not an end. Key tasks & deliverables Research existing and new data sources, becoming the teams subject matter expert on a small number of specific sources. Involves engagement with various IT and business experts outside the immediate team, and filling in the gaps in upstream documentation Engage with reporting business analysts to assemble requirements for new marts, recognising that detailed requirements will continue to evolve. Adopt an influencing style to manage internal stakeholder expectations Prepare and document designs for marts, including source-to-target mappings and complex transformation algorithms, for peer review, following common design principles Develop and unit test data marts and supporting services, mainly using PL\SQL. The success criteria are code robustness, logic transparency, load efficiency, consistency and re-usability Liaise with colleagues responsible for independent testing and the independent release manager Review change requests to existing marts, and develop changes accordingly Provide guidance and direction to business users in the correct usage of the marts delivered Update meta data repositories and manage data governance change control processes Facilitate transfer of key analysis and BI development skills to core business personnel

Participate in a collegiate approach to supporting colleagues and reviewing each others work Contribute to the delivery of the Business Intelligence Strategy and provide insight to shape the business intelligence direction of the organisation

Essential skills required 7 10 years experience in business intelligence / MI development, ideally as an end-user or in an end-user-facing role Extensive data analysis or business analysis experience 3+ years up-to-date user experience with Oracle, including DDL and DML High level of competence and experience developing with Oracle SQL and PL\SQL 5+ years development experience with any procedural programming language Data modelling experience, designing new models and interpreting existing models Good MS Office skills Strong analytic and trouble shooting skills Testing expertise Experience in iterative/agile development techniques

Desirable skills General Insurance experience, ideally claims based Functional experience in any of the following: o Financial accounting, ideally Oracle Financials R12 o Budgeting, forecasting, costing o Call centre management o HR analysis and reporting o Customer relationship management o Supplier management Data presentation skills Development experience with a BI tool e.g. Business Objects, OBIEE, Cognos, SAS Database administration experience, ideally with Oracle
