RESPONSES TO PRE-TRIBULATION ARGUMENTS PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE NOT TAUGHT BY EARLY CHURCH FATHERS: Thank you, My Brother for your

heartfelt reply and information. Please know that, like you, I study the Scriptures daily in the love of our Lord's Word that we both apparently share--PTL! Also like you I have studied the early church fathers, extensively, and I must ask you to please tell me who of believed and spoke of a pre-trib rapture? All of the early fathers believed in the harpazo (catching away), but none of them believed it would happen before antichrist's tribulation of the church. In fact, all the leading pre-trib proponents, Dr. John Whitcomb, Tommy Ice, Jimmy DeYoung, etc., etc., ALL OF THEM STATE that the earliest pre-1800s writing was done by "Pseudo-Ephraem" in the 7th century. The irony is that no one knows who he was as evidenced by Pseudo being added to the name Ephraem. In other words, NONE of the leading pre-trib teachers ever quote an early church father's words supporting a pre-trib rapture, quite simply because there aren't any. In point of fact, Brother, the earliest church fathers, such as Irenaeus, Hippolytus, Justin Martyr, Tertullian, etc., all adamantly state in their writing that Christians will suffer tribulation at the hands of antichrist. It's important to note that the Apostle John was friends with and taught Polycarp, and Polycarp taught Irenaeus, and Irenaeus taught Hippolytus, etc. In other words, the earliest church fathers taught directly by John himself or in the next lines of teachers, ALL OF THEM taught that the church will go through the persecution of antichrist during the tribulation of the 7 year final week of Daniel timeframe. They clearly understood the difference between antichrists persecution and Gods wrathas Scripture says, we will not suffer Gods wrath, but as Scripture also says and the earliest church fathers taught, we will go through antichrists persecution in the tribulation period. Allow me to quote A FEW of the earliest church fathers and writings: In the Didache (The Teaching of the 12 Apostles), in Chapter 16, verses 3 through 8 tell us the chronology of events they taught: vv. 3--4afalse prophets, corrupters, love shall change to hate, lawlessness increaseth. vv. 4b--5then shall appear the deceiver of the world [Antichrist] as a Son of God, and shall do signs and wonders and the earth shall be given over into his hands and he shall commit iniquities which have never been since the world began [great tribulation]. Then shall the creation of mankind come to the fiery trial and "many shall be offended" and be lost but "they who endure" in their faith [during the great tribulation] "shall be saved" [delivered from the day of the Lord] by the curse itself. v. 6And "then shall appear the signs" of the truth. First the sign spread out in Heaven, then the sign of the sound of the trumpet, and thirdly the resurrection of the dead [i.e., resurrection of the righteous]. v. 8Then shall the world "see the Lord coming on the clouds of Heaven" [shekinah glory]. http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/didache-roberts.html Scroll down to Chapter 16 and read it yourself. Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho [150-165] " . . . but the other, in which He shall come from heaven with glory, when the man of apostasy, who speaks strange things against the Most High, shall venture to do unlawful deeds on the earth against us the Christians . . ." Tertullian, The Prescription Against Heretics [190-210], "Who are the ravening wolves but those deceitful senses and spirits which are lurking within to waste the flock of Christ? Who are the false prophets but deceptive predictors of the future? Who are the false apostles but the preachers of a spurious gospel? Who also are the Antichrists, both now and evermore, but the men who rebel against Christ? Heresies, at the present time, will no less rend the church by their perversion of doctrine, than will Antichrist persecute her at that day by the cruelty of his attacks, except that persecution makes even martyrs, (but) heresy only apostates." Tertullian, On the Resurrection of the Flesh [190-210], "... and that the beast Antichrist with his false prophet may wage war on the Church of God; ... Since, then, the Scriptures both indicate the stages of the last times, and concentrate the harvest of the Christian hope in the very end of the world,..."

Hyppolytus, On Daniel [220], "And when he has conquered all, he will prove himself a terrible and savage tyrant, and will cause tribulation and persecution to the saints, exalting himself against them... When the times are fulfilled, and the ten horns spring from the beast in the last (times), then Antichrist will appear among them. When he makes war against the saints, and persecutes them, then may we expect the manifestation of the Lord from heaven." Hyppolytus, On Christ and Antichrist [220], "in order that when those things come to pass, we may be prepared for them, and not deceived. For when the times advance, he too, of whom these thing are said, will be manifested...Now, concerning the tribulation of the persecution which is to fall upon the Church from the adversary ... That refers to the one thousand two hundred and threescore days (the half of the week) during which the tyrant is to reign and persecute the Church..." Hyppolytus, Elucidation [220], "Notwithstanding, not even then will the merciful and benignant God leave the race of men without all comfort; but He will shorten even those days and the period of three years and a half, and He will curtail those times on account of the remnant of those who hide themselves in the mountains and caves, that the phalanx of all those saints fail not utterly...what remains but the manifestation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Son of God, from heaven, for whom we have hoped;" Cyprian, Epistle 55 of Cyprian [252], "Antichrist is coming, but above him comes Christ also. The enemy goeth about and rageth, but immediately the Lord follows to avenge our sufferings and our wounds. The adversary is enraged and threatens, but there is One who can deliver us from his hands." Saint Cyril (Archbishop of Jerusalem), Lecture 15 [326 AD], "But this aforesaid Antichrist is to come... At first indeed he will put on a show of mildness (as though he were a learned and discreet person), and of soberness and benevolence: and by the lying signs and wonders of his magical deceit a having beguiled the Jews, as though he were the expected Christ, he shall afterwards be characterized by all kinds of crimes of inhumanity and lawlessness, so as to outdo all unrighteous and ungodly men who have gone before him displaying against all men, but especially against us Christians, a spirit murderous and most cruel, merciless and crafty...But thanks be to God who hath confined the greatness of that tribulation to a few days; for He says, But for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened..." My Brother, these are just a few of the many writings of those taught by the Apostle John himself or taught by others who were taught by John. They all clearly speak what the church believed and taught in the earliest days following Jesus with us on earth. In point of fact, my Brother, Pretribulational imminency, however, is new in Church history. It was first taught around the year 1830 by the Plymouth Brethren theologian John Nelson Darby (you will not find it taught in the Church before Darby). This false teaching arose in the 1800s along with many other attacks of the enemy in that century, e.g., JWs, Mormons, etc. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON PSEUDO-EPHRAEM AND GRANT JEFFREY, PLEASE SEE: http://www.totall.exagorazo.net/Post-Tribulation/Mirrors/Last%20Trumpet %202000/www.geocities.com/lasttrumpet_2000/timeline/ephraem.html FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON EARLY CHURCH FATHERS TEACHING ON CHRISTIANS SUFFERING PERSECUTION DURING THE TRIBULATION PERIOD OF DANIELS 70TH WEEK, PLEASE SEE THEIR WRITINGS AT: http://prewrathrapture.com/2009/08/the_teaching_of_the_early_church_on_the.php TO DOWNLOAD YOUR OWN COPIES OF EARLY CHURCH FATHERS WRITINGS: http://www.holybooks.com/ante-nicene-fathers-vol-i-ix/ http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/hippolytus-christ.html http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/irenaeus-book5.html

In His love and truth, Mick HISTORY OF PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE DEVELOPMENT: The development of the pretribulation rapture is generally attributed to John Darby of the Plymouth Brethren, who formalized the theory around 1830. Prior to this time, the return of Christ was seen as a singular event. Jesus would return to earth once, to rapture His Church, to redeem lost Israel, and to judge the wicked and rebellious world, and this was seen either as a midtribulational or posttribulational event. Darby was the first to formally theorize that Jesus would return in two stages: first in spiritual form to rapture the Church, then in bodily form seven years later to judge the world. This allowed Jesus to return triumphantly at Armageddon while keeping the Church out of the 70th Week. (H. L. Nigro, Before Gods Wrath: The Bibles Answer to the Timing of the Rapture, page 122. Another founder of the Plymouth Brethren had this to say about the teachings of Darby: It should be noted, however, that Dr. Samuel P. Tregelles, the renowned conservative Greek scholar of the nineteenth century (the author of six separate works on translation), considered one of the founding fathers of the Plymouth Brethren Church, strongly disagreed with John Nelson Darby on the position when it first appeared in England. Dr. Tregelles believed in a facevalue hermeneutic, and he knew the original languages like few others of his time. In his book The Hope of Christs Second Coming (pp. 74-82), first published in 1864, he denounced the pre-tribulation Rapture position as being sentimental and emotional and without a thread of biblical support. He stated boldly that the pre-tribulation doctrine of the coming of Christ [is] not taught in the Word of God.This whole system stands in distinct contradiction of what the Scripture reveals (p. 32). THE RAPTURE AND DAY OF THE LORD (AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN) ARE ALL PART OF THE SECOND COMING (PAROUSIA) OF OUR LORD: Most pre-trib teachers make the mistake of taking the Second Coming of Jesus and breaaking it into two separate events. They state that Jesus will return to rapture his church before the Tribulation (Daniels 70th week), and again will return at the end or after the Tribulation to punish and judge the world. Of course, this would mean that the Second Coming is actually followed by a Third Coming, which is completely

unBiblical. They try to get around this by saying when Jesus returns (parousia) to rapture His church, that this parousia doesnt count because His feet dont actually touch the earthtalk about twisting Scripture! Most everyone agrees that we should be using the Greek word, Parousia used in Scripture for the Second Coming. The reason for using the Greek, Parousia is thats the use by Biblical writers in the New Testament, e.g., Peter, James, John and Paul all use it in Mat 24:3, Mark 13:3, 1 Cor 15:23, James 5:7-11, 2 Peter 3:4, 1 John 2:28-29, as well as other verse which also use Parousia. Regarding what this word means, Dr. John Walvoord of Dallas Theological Seminary writes in his, New Testament Word for the Lords Coming, p. 285, It is clear . . . no technical term is established which would limit its use to either one or the other, i.e., the rapture or the second coming. In other words, according to Dr. Walvoord, Parousia is descriptive of both the rapture and the glorious return of Christ to earth. This statement by Dr. Walvoord (who subscribes to a pre-tribulation rapture) is evidenced by Scripture. However, it seems Dr. Walvoord stops short of whats included in the Parousia, i.e., he doesnt believe the Parousia includes the Day of the Lords wrath. Scripture clearly shows that the Parousia of Jesus also includes the Day of the Lord (and other events), which means the Parousia is not a single event that happens twice; rather, its a one-time single event that includes the rapture followed by His wrath (and all events in between: The Parousia includes first the rapture AND the Day of the Lords wrath (Mat 24:29, 2 Thess 2:1-10). All unbelievers will suffer at Christs Parousia (Mat 24:30, 2 Pet 3:4, Jam 5:7-12) The Parousia will be with power and great glory (Mat 24:31), and the brightness of His parousia will bring Antichrists persecution to an end (2 Thess 2:8). Angels are part of His Parousia (Mat 24:31, 1 Thess 3:11-13) Christ will send His angels to GATHER THE ELECT from everywhere at His Parousia (Mat 24:31, Mark 13:27), which involves of course the believers resurrection at the Parousia (1 Cor 15:23, 1 Thess 4:16.) In fact, the sending of the angels will be accompanied by a great blast of a trumpet (Mat 24:31, 1 Cor 15:23 and 1 Thess 4:13-18). Believers will be delivered at His Parousia (Mat 24:13, 29-31, Jam 5:7-11) We are warned of negative judgment at Parousia (Mat 24:45-51, 1 Thess 5:23, 1 John 2:28-29). Clearly the above verses show that our Lords Second Coming (Parousia) goes beyond just the rapture, but also includes the other events listed as part of His Parousia, i.e., a single Second Coming that includes even the Day of the Lords wrath. This is also clearly reflected in the meaning of the word Parousia as we find in the definition in Thayers Greek Definitions: G3952 parousia Thayer Definition: 1) presence 2) the coming, arrival, advent 2a) the future visible return from heaven of Jesus, to raise the dead, hold the last judgment, and set up formally and gloriously the kingdom of God Part of Speech: noun feminine A Related Word by Thayers/Strongs Number: from the present participle of G3918 Citing in TDNT: 5:858, 791 Notice that Parousia is also identified as a noun (person, place or thing) and not a verb, which in this case refers to the thing, i.e., something that happens inclusive of all the events that happen during His Second Coming. Further proof of this is found in classical Greek writings and stories where a king comes (Parousia) for a visit, and the people go out to meet the king, remain with him during his visit and includes all the events of his visit up through his departure. This was the common usage and meaning of Parousia in the Greek classical writings of the time. In like manner and useage, Christs first coming (Parousia) included all the events from His birth up to His ascension into the clouds after His death and resurrection. Hence, my question to Dr. John to please explain why he splits the Parousia into two parts, in essence a second and third coming of our Lord, when Scripture

clearly shows this not to be the case, especially when a little exegesis and common usage of Greek are also considered. Gods wrath actually doesnt begin until the end of Daniels 70th Week:

THE FIRST SIX SEALS OF REVELATION ARE NOT PART OF GODS WRATH: Many Pretribulationalists have wrongly assumed that the first six seals are Gods wrath and thus part of the Day of the Lord. This is simply assumed and necessary for the Pretrib system because they cannot allow any prophesied events to unfold before the rapture because that would undermine imminency. The first six seals are not Gods wrath but precursors to the Day of the Lord. The following is not meant to be an exhaustive explanation of this supposition, but an outline of salient points.

First, the Cosmic Disturbances of the sixth seal announce Gods wrath upon the ungodly, The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. (Joel 2:31) And this is what we have at the sixth seal. Second, both the responses from the martyrs in the fifth seal and the ungodly in the sixth seal reveal that Gods wrath is soon to comethey have not viewed it already in the past. The fifth seal martyrs are asking when God will pour out his wrath; and the ungodly in the sixth seal are running to the caves and crying out about the impending wrath. Third, the fact that there are two groups of people, one group being sealed and the other delivered, just before the seventh seal suggests strongly that they are being sealed and delivered from something looming that will come upon the whole world. Fourth, the nature of the events in the first four seals are natural (but intense) catastrophes (wars, famines, etc.) carried out by horsemen. This is in contrast to when the seventh seal (supernatural contents) is opened up and the unmistakable wrath of God is mediated directly by angels via the trumpet and bowl judgments against the ungodly. (By the way, a fourth of mankind is not killed in the fourth seal; there is only, power over a fourth of the earth.) Fifth, the first five seals in Revelation chapter six parallel Jesus teaching about this being the beginning of birth pangs in Matthew 24:5-8. Sixth, obviously the fifth seal is not Gods wrath because it specifically speaks of the martyrdom of believers. And since believers are promised protection from the Day of the Lords wrath, to argue that the fifth seal is Gods wrath is contradictory. Seventh, when the seventh seal is opened, immediately it says that there was silence in heaven for about a half an hour. The most plausible explanation for this silence is for all the members of the heavenly court to observe the grave and profound significance of the event that is to follow: The Eschatological Day of the Lords wrath. Immediately after this silence it says, Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake. This unprecedented dreadful opening act of Gods wrath is then followed by how the Old Testament prophets characterized the Day of the Lord: fire and destruction. And this is realized in the trumpet and bowl judgments. FOR FULL ARTICLE BY PASTOR CHARLES COOPER, PLEASE SEE: http://prewrathrapture.com/2009/06/the_first_six_seals_are_not_gods_wrath_1.php REVELATION 3:10 IS NOT REFERRING TO THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH; rather, it is referring to the church being kept by the Lord, starting at The Tribulation, and thru it, until being brought out of it before The Day of the Lord (Gods wrath) on the unrepentant: For reference: Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. While this verse is sometimes used by supporters of a pre-tribulation rapture of the church, this is an error commonly called, eisegesis (reading meaning into the text), instead of exegesis (read meaning out of/from the text). Very often, the errors of eisegesis are partly based upon poor hermeneutics (grammaticalhistorical method of word interpretation). When we apply good rules of hermeneutics, we arrive at a proper exegesis (understanding read out of/from ) Revelation 3:10. In that regard, lets look at the words of our verse in question:

1. kept and keep: The Greek word used here is tereo. Per Strongs concordance: From teros (a watch; perhaps akin to G2334); to guard (from loss or injury, properly by keeping the eye upon; 2. from (the hour): The Greek used here is , ek/ex. Again, per Strongs: A primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence motion or action proceeds), from, out (of place, time or cause; literally or figuratively; direct or remote): - after, 3. Another important Greek word, not used in this verse, but that has a bearing on our use of from, is the word, Apo A primary particle; off, that is, away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; In other words, TEREO means to "watch over protectively, guard" and with the preposition EK it carries the idea of being guarded or protected and rescued OUT FROM the midst of danger. If the idea of KEEPING one FROM ENTERING were intended the preposition APO would have been used. As Im sure youre aware, I am not alone in this analysis. In point of fact, some of the worlds most renknowned Biblical Greek scholars and theologians fully concur, including Goodspeed, Moffatt, Fausett, Swete, Zahn, Beckwith, Trench, Alexander Reese, and Robert Gundry. Of course, where possible, and it usually is, we use Scripture to prove Scripture. In this case, THE ONLY OTHER PASSAGE in the New Testament that combines these two terms (TEREO EK) appears in another Johannine composition, in John 17:15. There, the night before his crucifixion, Jesus clarifies his petition to his heavenly Father: My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. This text could hardly be more explicit in what it requests: protection from something harmful while Jesuss disciples remain on earth, in the same fasion that Tereo Ek reads in Rev 3:10. To make matters worse for the pre-trib position, most of the prominent theologians (Lewis Schaeffer, Paul Feinberg, Charles Ryrie, Henry Thiessen, Tim LaHaye) all support such your position, and all of them state that Rev 3:10 is the best proof text of the pre-trib rapture position. Given the above rebuttal, this best proof text clearly fails and pre-trib along with it. Of course, the danger, a very real spiritual danger, of false pre-trib rapture belief, is that those who are saved already will not be prepared for the tribulation of antichrist, which is clearly separate from Gods wrath that will be displayed in His glory on the Day of the Lord. Even worse, those who are not yet saved and see the antichrist will believe that he is Jesus coming to rapture believers, and will end up following antichrist in their false belief. As our Lord tells us, My children perish for lack of knowledge. The earliest church writers, who were taught by St. John himself, ALL of them wrote and taught that the church will suffer the tribulation of antichrist. Applying good hermeneutics to achieve a proper exegesis of Revelation 3:10 clearly shows that it does not refer to a pre-tribulation rapture of the church, as further evidenced by Scripture and the teachings of the earliest church fathers. Lastly, thank you, my Brother, for a life dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ. Please seek the Lord further in this matter and repent from a well-intentioned and hopeful pre-trib rapture belief that is just not true. Please note that I ask you to repent, in humility and love, as well as fear, first for your readers and the dangers noted above in this false belief, and secondly fear for you. The book of Revelation carries a curse upon those who would add to or take away from it, in this case, adding or taking away words and meaning through eisegesis, as opposed to using good hermenteutics to arrive at good exegesis and what is actually said: Rev 22:18-19: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The motivation for this claim recognizes the implication that the church would encounter Antichrists great tribulation. They must then posit a secret rapture that occurs before the events in Matthew 24 because their theology teaches that Christ can come back at any moment to rapture the church before the Antichrists great tribulation. Accordingly, they will claim that the gathering of the elect in Matthew 24:31 does not refer to the rapture, but instead refers to the re-gathering of Israel. In addition, they interpret Jesus coming back in power and great glory in Matthew 24 as happening at the battle of Armageddon. Therefore, the events described in the Olivet Discourse do not apply to the church. This theological presupposition is a forced interpretation upon the natural reading of the text. The following points will show that this is an unwarranted position: First, in the Great Commission, Jesus taught these same disciplesand by extension the churchthat he would be with them to the end of the age (Matt 28:1820). And Jesus also taught them that this end of the age extends into the events of the Olivet Discourse, since he places the end of the age inside his Olivet Discourse: And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (Matt 24:14 ESV). Having established that the church will be present to the end of the age in verse 14, we can take it a step further and show how verse 14 relates to what follows it. In verses 914, Jesus spoke of tribulation, the persecution of the saints, followed by the end of the age. Next, in verse 15, Jesus unpacks that persecution explaining how it will come about, which begins a parenthetical section clarifying the previous section. That is, verses 1531 do not follow chronologically verses 914; instead, it thematically develops verses 914 on the tribulation, persecution, and spiritual action the believer is to take. There are two good reasons for this. Grammatically, verse 15 begins with the conjunction oun, rendered therefore (or so in some translations). This conjunction functions inferentially as a deduction or summary to the preceding discussion. Jesus gives the additional detail that those who experience the persecution described in verse 9 will do so because of the consequences of the abomination of desolation that causes great tribulation. There is another reason we know that verses 1531 thematically develops verses 914. Notice in verse 15, Jesus says, Therefore when you see. He has the same audience in view from verse 9. There is no justification to claim that the you in verse 15 is a different you in verse 9. Second, it has been argued from many pretribulationists that since the book of Matthew is Jewish, the Olivet Discourse cannot be for the Gentiles. This assertion is riddled with the following problems. (1) The Olivet Discourse is also found in the books of Mark and Luke whose audience were principally Gentile. (2) In Matthew when Jesus was being rejected by the Jewish leadership, he taught that the gospel would expand beyond Israel to other nations: For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit (Matt 21:43). Accordingly, he was preparing his disciples for church instruction. (3) Matthew is the only gospel that mentions the word church, ekklsia (Matt 16:18; 18:17). This does not mean, of course, the other gospels do not apply to the church; the point is that those who seek to disconnect church teaching from Matthew must contend with that biblical fact. (4) By their logic we should not observe the Lords Supper since it is commanded in Matthew 26:1730. (5) Pretribulationists agree that the Great Commission is for the church, and yet that passage is found in the book of Matthew (Matt 28:1920). In addition, in the Great Commission, Jesus says, teaching them to

obey everything I have commanded you. Why should his teaching on the Olivet Discourse and his commands therein be excluded from everything? Selective interpretation is a sign of a failed argument. The reasons could go on and on, but the point is that the consequences of the presupposition to a secret pretribulational rapture results in a tortured reading and application of Matthew 2425, and a presupposition that affects other teachings in Matthew. In short, it is a false dichotomy to claim that since the book of Matthew is Jewish, the Olivet Discourse does not pertain to the church. But how some can so easily forget that the first members of the church were all Jewish, preparing to take all of Jesus teachings and commands to the Gentiles! Third, frequently pretribulationism asserts that Matthew 24 is not for the church and thus does not contain a rapture teaching. Yet in the same conversation they will unmindfully quote the following verse in respect to the rapture: But as for that day and hour no one knows itnot even the angels in heavenexcept the Father alone. This verse is from Matthew 24:36, the Olivet Discourse! So they cannot have it both ways. Fourth, in Pauls teaching for the church in Thessalonians, he draws from at least 25 parallels from Matthews Olivet Discourse, demonstrating that the Olivet Discourse is intended for the church. Fifth, other reasons can be given to why the Olivet Discourse pertains to the church. For example, the elect in Matthew 24 refers to Gentile and Jewish believers (i.e., the church). And a cluster of New Testament authors who wrote to local churches reference back to Jesus teaching on the parousia, applying it to their own churches. Further, the early church fathers in their writings applied Jesus Olivet Discourse to the church. For a detailed defense of these latter three points, see Charles Coopers, Gods Elect and the Great Tribulation: An Interpretation of Matthew 24:131 and Daniel 9, chs. 14 FOR FULL ARTICLES, PLEASE SEE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6Pe_jm9vLRA (12 minute video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pe_jm9vLRA&context=C4044084ADvjVQa1PpcFM52OXarSjDuz9phzBgNVYJnb-q_jsMKM= http://www.alankurschner.com/2011/12/28/olivet-discourse-matthew-24%E2%80%9325-is-for-thechurch-not-the-jews/ http://www.solagroup.org/products/pdf_files/parousia08.pdf PAULS, LAST TRUMP, AND THE 7TH TRUMPET OF REVELATION ARE NOT ONE AND THE SAME: The 7th trumpet is not the "last trumpet" spoken of by Paul. They should not be equated but are separate and distinct. Paul's use of "last trumpet" refers to the call to assembly in the context of the Roman games; or even in a military context. Either of these would be Paul's frame of reference. In both of these cases there was a preliminary trumpet (sometimes 2) and then the last one which was a call to assembly. This is the call to assembly for the gathering of the saints. He would have no knowledge of John's vision and the 7 trumpets. Even though the Holy Spirit "melds" all of scripture, it is not advisable to interpret Paul's use in any other way than the cultural context of the day which speaks of the "call to assembly." That is what will occur at the rapture. It is called THE trumpet of God at 1 Thessalonians 4:16, because it is at this time that he will "call" for the gathering of his people to meet Him in the clouds of the sky. Nor does it require the "actual" occurrence of one or two trumpet blasts before it, for the image in Paul's mind is simply focusing on the final blast which is the "call to assembly."

The 7th trumpet, on the other hand, is an announcement of judgment and not a call to assembly. PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE TEACHERS ASSUME THE CHURCH WILL BE RAPTURED PRE-TRIB BECAUSE THE WORD CHURCH DOES NOT APPEAR IN REVELATION CHAPTERS 4 THROUGH 21: Pretribulationism maintains that since the actual word church (ekklsia) does not appear in chapters 4 21, but is mentioned many times before chapter 4, it is assumed then that the church will be raptured before the events of chapter 4. This is very bad argumentation that is made in popular books, but rejected even by scholarly pretribulationism. Nevertheless, it is often the popular arguments that are influential so I will address this here. This form of argumentation is called the word-concept fallacy, an assumption that studying a word (or phrase) is the same as having studied the entire biblical concept. It is also known as the concordance method of interpretation: simply open up a concordance and finger down the page looking for usages of the word church, while excluding other terms that describe the church. It can be a beginning point for study, but word (or phrase) studies should certainly not end there. The problem with this method is that it does not take Scripture in a normal, natural, customary sense; hence, it is naive and completely ignores context. I will start with showing the absurdity of this argument by being absurd, followed by a few sensible responses. First, it may be asked why would the mention of church occur at the beginning of Revelation, but not throughout the book? It is erroneous to think that a New Testament writer is required to mention the term church throughout his writings to establish the application to the church. Paul only mentioned the term church once in the first chapter of his epistle to the Galatians. Do not Galatians chapters 26 apply to the church? The same can be said of 2 Thessalonians; the term church is only mentioned in chapter one. And in Colossians, the term is mentioned in the first and last chapters of the book. Does not the body of the letter to the Colossians apply to the church? So this method consistently applied is senseless. Second, the word church is absent from the books of Mark, Luke, John, 2 Timothy, Titus, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, and Jude. Does that mean those books do not pertain to the church? It is patently misguided to demand that the New Testament writers must only use the term church to discern if a passage applies to the church. Third, the word church is absent from rapture passages: 1Thessalonians 4:1317 and John 14:14. Following their logic, are we right to conclude that the church will not be raptured? Of course not! Fourth, the word church is absent from the heavenly scenes in Revelation 45. But heaven is the one place we would expect to find the church where pretribulationism says it will be at that time (because of their allegorical interpretation that sees Revelation 4:1 representing the church being caught up). The word church is also absent from Revelation chapters 1920. Will the church not participate in rejoicing in heaven and the marriage supper of the Lamb? Moreover, the Bride of Christ is found in Revelation 19:7 but the word church is never mentioned. Is the Bride then not the church? (cf. Rev 21:2!). Fifth, nowhere in the book of Revelation does the use of the word church ever denote the Church in its totality nor in the sense of the faithful universal church. Every mention of church(es) in Revelation denotes historical local churches in first century Asia Minor. And Revelation is addressed to seven churches not just one, which explains why the term church is used frequently at the beginning of the book. (Incidentally, the apostle John in his gospel and epistles never used the term church in the sense of the universal church; instead, he exercised his literary freedom to employ other terms to denote believers who were part of the church.) Sixth, who are the recipients of the book of Revelation? Revelation 1:1 says, The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants (doulos) what must happen very soon (Rev 1:1). The term used is servants (doulos). It will be the servants within the professing church who will endure persecution for their faith. The message is for them: Revelation 22:6 says, Then the angel said to me, These words are reliable and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants

what must happen soon (Rev 22:6). It is the servants/true believers/saints/the elect of God/those who hold to the testimony of Christ who will endure struggle and persecution and be ultimately victorious. Seventh, the word saints is used 59 times in the New Testament to refer to a true believer in Christ, a member of the true church. For example, the apostle Paul, recalling his days when he persecuted the church, equates the church with saints (compare Phil 3:6 and Acts 26:10). Pretribulationism claims that the reference to saints in the book of Revelation is some special group of tribulation saints. This falsely creates a new class of Christians apart from the church. Pretribulationism would have us believe that the saints in Revelation 13:7, who are being persecuted by Antichrist, cannot be part of the church; but they fail to see that the saints who are described as the Bride of Christ in Revelation 19:8 are the church! This false distinction is indicative of a flawed theological system forcing itself upon Scripture to reach their preconceived conclusion. This is clearly evident in Joel 2: And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. (Joel 2:2831) Acts 2:1621: But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. So who is the restrainer that is removed before the antichrist is revealed? I suggest that the restrainer is the Archangel Michael. Consider these two passages: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil, and satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. (Rev. 12:714) And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time. (Dan. 12:1) After the war in heaven, satan will be thrown down to earth and will indwell the antichrist and begin persecuting the saints during the great tribulation. This is when the restraining power of Michael the archangel will be removed. Marvin Rosenthal describes it like this: Speaking of the one who will hinder the antichrist, Paul said, only he who now hindereth will continue to hinder until he be taken out of the way (2 Thess. 2:7). The word hindereth means to hold down, and the phrase taken out of the way means to step aside. Therefore, the one who had the job of hindering the antichrist will step aside; that is, he will no longer be a restraint between the antichrist and those the antichrist is persecuting. . . . Further, Daniel has already said that Michael will stand up during a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time. The unprecedented time of

trouble can only refer to the Great Tribulation. Since Daniel is told that this great trouble relates to his peopleand his people are the Jewsthis can only be the time of Jacobs Trouble (Jer. 30:7), which is a synonym for the Great Tribulation. It is at that time that the archangel Michael will stand up. But what does the Hebrew word for stand up (amad) mean? Rashi, one of Israels greatest scholars . . . understood stand up to literally mean [to] stand still. The meaning, according to one of Israels greatest scholars, would be to stand aside or be inactive. Michael, the guardian of Israel, had earlier fought for her (Dan. 10:13, 21), but now this one who standeth for the children of thy people would stand still or stand aside. He would not help; he would not restrain; he would not hold down. The Midrash, commenting on this verse, says, The Holy One, Blessed be He, said to Michael, You are silent? You do not defend my children. So when the restrainer Michael removes his restraining power, then the antichrist will be revealed and the great tribulation will begin. The great tribulation and rule of the antichrist begins after the abomination of Desolation. Thus, 2 Thessalonians 2:67 does not support a pre-trib rapture, but shows that the rapture will occur after the great tribulation. SIMPLIFIED END TIMES TIMELINE This page is meant to help those new to end times prophecy to understand where/when events described in the Bible will occur. Not every event that will occur during the end times or has occurred in the past has been included in this timeline. If I added every event that is projected to occur, this timeline may last forever! However, I have attempted to include every major event possible in this timeline. Studying the end times is like putting a puzzle together. Sometimes you have to rearrange things to make fit better, so this timeline is subject to change. I will announce any changes that are made. You may notice that I reference some verses like Revelation 17 before I reference verses from Revelation 6. The reason verses from Revelation are not referenced in chronological order is that the events in the Book of Revelation are not written in a true chronological order where the events described in Revelation 17 occur after the fulfillment of the events in Revelation 6. What you have is a general chronological progression of events from Revelation 1 to Revelation 11 with events that take place within the 70th Week of Daniel (the seven prophetic year period) beginning to be described in Revelation 6. After Revelation 11 you have some visions that continue the progression of end times events (like Revelation 15-16) and some visions that further describe events alluded to between Revelation 6 and Revelation 11 (like Revelation 18). I know this may sound confusing so Ill refer you to Dr. Charles Coopers excellent piece on the structure of the Book of Revelation: http://revelationcommentary.org/structure.html He describes the structure of the Book of Revelation better than I could ever do.
