Lesson Plan STARHUB-CENTRAL SINGAPORE NURTURE PROGRAMME NURTUREPLUS LESSON 15: PLURALS (FINAL ES) Part 1 Duration 10 minutes

s Lesson READING FLUENCY Objective: To check / monitor students progress in reading 1. Teacher recaps previous lesson taught and get student response. 2. Ask each student to read the book aloud. 3. Teacher checks reading of each student. While student reads: 1. Teacher corrects any mistakes made. 2. Students write down words not read correctly in their notebook /worksheet. 3. While teacher is assessing a particular student, the rest will read on their own while waiting for their turn. Materials Reading Material: Own PM+ Level books for each group (depends on proficiency level of each student group) 1 set for teacher, 1 for pupil Student Worksheet: Lesson 15

WORD STUDY Objective: Students will learn the use of final es to make a noun plural especially with words ending with ss, sh and ch 1. Review the plural s learnt in the previous lesson. 2. Show students a set of words that end with ss, ch and sh. Make students pronounce the words loudly. 3. Encourage student interaction by asking them how to make the words plural. 4. Discuss student answers and correct any mistakes made. 5. Model to students the correct way by adding es at the end. 6. Provide students with 3 other words with ss, ch or sh at the end and encourage them to provide the plural form. INSTRUCTIONAL READING Objective: Students will get to interact with their text through oral presentation and discuss what they have learnt from the text they have read. Before reading: 1. Pass the passage to students. 2. Engage student interest by asking them to guess what the story is about by looking at the title. 3. Discuss student answers. Reading: 1. Make students read books in their own groups. 2. Ask students to write difficult words on their worksheet and guide their understanding. After reading: 1. Get student interaction by asking and saying several questions and statements. (refer to Teacher Resource) 2. Pick students at random and get their responses to the questions and statements. 3. Make students write on their worksheets what they have learnt from reading their books.

WRITING Objective: Students will improve writing fluency 1. Review plural words with final es learnt in the lesson and encourage students to write as many words as they can remember from the words they have seen or read. 2. Ask each student to stand up and read the words they have written and share to the class. 3. Monitor and help students with their spelling and pronunciation. Student Worksheet: Lesson 15

BOARD GAMES Objective: Students will reinforce their understanding in topics taught (in this lesson or previous) by engaging in educational games. 1. Hand out games appropriate to each level. 2. Monitor students progress and understanding in games. 3. Wrap up lesson by highlighting what students have learnt. Any games students have not played before.

Part 3: Instructional Reading Get students to interact with their text through oral questioning and answer session. (Test oral skills of students) Ask the students the following questions or say the following statements and pick students at random or have them take turns answering while the rest comment on their friends answers. PLOT OF STORY 1. The story is interesting. Is it? 2. The story is funny. 3. The story has a good ending. 4. I like the story. CHARACTERS in STORY 1. The character is helpful. 2. The character is very brave. 3. The character is just like me. 4. I do not like the main characters. GIST OF STORY 1. The story has taught me a useful lesson. NOTE TO TEACHER: Make sure each student gets a chance to air his views. Finally ask students to write on their worksheets what is the lesson they have learnt from.
