The Syrian Liberal Party Announced

Iraq July 25, 2012 - The Liberal Party, a group of pro-revolution Syrians, was
announced earlier this month in a conference held in Cairo. The party includes a group of activists and politicians who support the Syrian revolution and aim to build a modern Syria on democratic and civil bases that guarantee justice for all Syrian citizens without discrimination, depending on the principles of individual liberty and equality among all people. The Liberal Party depends on principles of liberty as a philosophical and legal concept, whose basis is the free, sovereign individual that enjoys freedom, dignity and fundamental rights guaranteed by the International Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as the cultural, social, and economic rights and other covenantsparticularly those relating to women and children. The freedoms of belief, expression, political and cultural activity, and the right to owning properties, housing, education, travel, health, clean environment, work and social security against poverty, disease and aging, as well as the right to litigation before fair and impartial judiciary are some of the foremost human rights. The founders of the party pointed out to their belief in the need to cooperate and integrate with other opposition parties, stressing that political rivalry must be postponed until building a democratic Syria, based on the principle of peaceful transfer of power through ballot boxes. The founding conference was attended by some of the National Council members like Tawfiq Donia, member of the Executive Bureau, and Jabr Shofi, as well as such prominent activists as Najati Tayyara, actress Louise Abdul Karim, TV presenter Tawfiq Hallaq, who all commended the formation of the party, showing strong support for such steps that put Syrians on the right track of public work. The interim secretariat of the party consists of Bassam Isaac, member of the National Council's secretariat, Marah Biqaei, member of the National Council, Dr. Ghazwan AlAktaa, president of the Syrians Association in Europe, Munther Aqbeeq, businessman and opposition activist, Moataz Al-Khayyat, businessman and opposition activist , and Tawfiq Hallaq. Since establishment, the party has received many applications for membership from groups of Syrian activists and dissidents inside and outside Syria, who believe in the party's ideology and the direction it follows. On the other hand, the party members received invitation from the Arab League to attend the Syrian opposition conference in Cairo on the 2nd and 3rd of July.
