APPRENTICE - BOILERMAKER

After completing high school military service, in the absence of financial assistance which would afford me the opportunity to gain a tertiary qualification, I entered into the market most readily available to me banking. I have moved as opportunities presented themselves to me to work in an environment that would allow for growth and further education. After completing a Certificate in Practical Management (whilst working as a Project Accountant), I developed a desire to gain some hands-on experience in the manufacturing and construction industry. I had the opportunity of working part time at a small family run engineering company between 2006 and 2008. Once my skills had developed to the extent that I would be an asset to the company, and because the company was awarded a contract that demanded increased capacity, I moved from accounting into the engineering industry. I was appointed as the lead boilermaker, and worked in this position, with increasing responsibility and complexity of work from November 2008. In September 2011 I had the opportunity to work from home, doing light to medium steel fabrication, which I have done since then. I have had exposure to a number of roles in business and feel that this has given me a good understanding of the ins and outs of business, with the added advantage of understanding the restrictions and limitations facing artisans. I have also had the opportunity to work as a mentor and advisor in a number of different roles as a trainer on mission, as a tax manager, as an accountant training new employees in Sub Sahara African countries (Kenya, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Madagascar), and as a teacher in my church. I am patient and friendly in all interpersonal relationships, and able to establish and maintain good working relationships with managers, colleagues and sub-ordinates. I have good staff management, motivational and training abilities. I have a track record for establishing, developing and maintaining internal and external client relationships, at all levels. I am successful in identifying problem areas, recommending and implementing workable solutions in a variety of environments. I have strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills. I am proficient in English and Afrikaans. I interact well on a one-to-one basis and in a group situation at peer, superior and subordinate levels, both as leader and in a key support function.

I enjoy a challenge. I am flexible and innovative in applying knowledge and experience to different circumstances and environments. I work well under pressure, have a strong sense of obligation toward employer, and am willing to make sacrifices to meet deadlines.

I believe that I have a lot to offer OSBORN, and that my passion for knowledge will be an advantage as an apprentice boilermaker and the people I will be working with because enthusiasm is contagious. I look forward to a favourable response from you. Yours sincerely,

Andr de Villiers 072 566 9434
