Activesync Synchronization
Microsoft ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows powered PC and your Windows Mobile powered device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications from your desktop to your device. In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 so that you can keep your e-mail, calendar, notes, and contacts updated wirelessly when youre away from your PC.

activesync setup
installation 1. Install the latest version of ActiveSync (version 4.2 or higher) by inserting the supplied Getting Started CD. 2. Upon completion of installation, ActiveSync will open with the Get Connected page. 3. Ensure that the device is on and connected to your PC with the USB cable. 4. Click Next after the device has been connected to your PC. 5. Once the device is connected to the computer, the Found New Hardware Wizard should recognize the device as a Generic RNDIS and then a Windows Mobile Based Device. 6. Once the computer has recognized the device, ActiveSync will open and attempt to detect the device. creating a partnership (outlook) 7. Once ActiveSync detects your device, the Synchronization Setup Wizard will automatically run; click Next. 8. Select the Outlook information you wish to synchronize (your selections can also be changed in the future); click Next. 9. Press Finish to save your settings and close the wizard.

10. ActiveSync will start the synchronization process with your device and display progress. 11. When synchronization completes, ActiveSync will show the Connected and Synchronized status. 12. All of the Outlook information you selected will be synchronized between your device and PC. 13. Schedule your sync times and amounts easily by clicking Menu > Schedule between your device and PC.

common issues USB Connectivity Some users have had difficulty synching through USB. Things to check: Activate USB connection Ensure that USB is selected by navigating to Start > Programs > ActiveSync > Menu > Connections Switch USB port Switch to a different USB port and retry. Do not use USB hubs / docking stations Try using a USB port directly on the PC. Deactivate firewalls Turn off any software firewalls that may be running on your PC. power / battery charging tips


battery charging To charge your device, please only use the supplied AC charger and USB cable. If your battery level is below ~10%, the device may not charge through the supplied USB cable that connects to your laptop. Please use the supplied AC charger in this case. battery-saving tips Turn off the Bluetooth feature when not in use in Comm Manager. Adjust backlight settings to shorten lighting duration. Lower key tone volumes and turn off any unwanted sound notifications. Turn on Hibernate mode by tapping the power button when phone is not in use. Turn on keypad or device lock to prevent accidental activation of device and backlight.

system capacity
system resources Running several resource-intensive applications such as Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player simultaneously can lead to slower response times and may cause the system to freeze. Some tips to avoid slow response times and freezing: When not in use, close running programs in Task Manager. To access the Task Manager, navigate to Start > Task Manager. You may close individual or all programs in Menu. Please note: pressing the x in the upper right corner minimizes but does not close the application. Soft reset the device periodically. If the device is unresponsive, please wait and do not try to open additional programs. system memory Save data on your microSD card as system memory is limited. Content on your microSD card will not be located in the same folder as data saved onto the device.

Multimedia Tips and Tricks


The HTC S621 features Windows Media Player to enrich your multimedia experience. After following several easy steps, you can take your favourite music and video clips wherever you go. The following are some useful tips to help you get started: windows media player tips transfer music and videos to your device 1. To transfer files between your device and PC, you must first connect your device via USB and then open ActiveSync. Once your device is recognized by your PC, the ActiveSync window will indicate Connected. 2. Press Explore and your devices My Documents folder window will pop up. If you would like to transfer media to your microSD card, double click the My Windows Mobile-Based Device icon and access the Storage Card folder. 3. The HTC S621 allows you to access your e-mail virtually anywhere you go. Microsoft Office Outlook can act as a single repository for your multiple e-mail accounts and text messages. To ensure your e-mail is properly setup to suit your needs, we offer a few pointers to get you up and running.

personal e-mail through outlooK (non-hotmail)


tips Before setting up your personal e-mail, you must have the following information at hand: Your e-mail address, user name, password, account type (POP3 or IMAP4). Incoming mail server address, Outgoing mail server address, and domain name. Popular incoming mail server addresses: pop3.e-mail.msn.com (MSN). pop.gmail.com (Google Mail). pop.mail.yahoo.com (Yahoo! Mail Plus). If you are unsure of any of these items, please contact your e-mail provider. setup 1. Go to Start > Messaging. 2. Select Outlook E-mail and press Menu > Options > New Account. 3. Enter your e-mail address (e.g. S621user@hotmail.com) and press Next. 4. Once Auto configuration has completed, press Next. 5. Enter your display Name, User Name, and Password; press Next. 6. Select POP3 or IMAP4 and name your e-mail account; press Next. 7. Enter your Incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) and Outgoing (SMTP) mail servers and Domain name; press Options. 8. Select the time intervals for downloading new messages; press Next. 9. Limit the amount of messages that are downloaded and set the authentication method for outgoing mail; press Next. 10. Select partial or full message downloading; press Finish. hotmail If you would like to access your Hotmail account, you must follow a slightly different path. There is a Pocket MSN utility that will automatically configure your device. To access this utility: setup 1. Go to Start > Pocket MSN icon. 2. Select MSN Hotmail.

3. Enter your e-mail address and password; press Sign In. 4. Once auto-configuration has completed, you will be directed to your inbox.
