CHAPEL CHIMES growing in faith...sharing Gods love

K E L LY S K O R N E R
AUGUST

I hope you were blessed by the summer sermon series, Old Heroes For A New Day. Starting August 5th, the new series will be: 3:16The Numbers of Hope (Max Lucado) For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 Timeless and powerful, these words proclaim a message of love, a source of hope and a promise of life. One sentence, softly spoken nearly two thousand years ago, is just as relevant today as when it was first uttered.

Changing Hearts by Lori Odle My heart was changed as I prepared and trusted God's timing for my trip to Tanzania with the STEMM team. God continues to show me how much He loves His people across the world and especially 'little children.' We are all made in the image of God, whether in a house in the states or a mud and stick hut in Africa. I have been moved by the compassion and hospitality in Tanzania. God whispered to me while serving plates of rice to the c h i l d re n o f C o m p a s s i o n International. As I slid a plate across the table, I heard him say, "Feed my Sheep." As I visited orphanages and saw the children who need to be fed, my heart wept for those who get one meal a day and don't go to school as there is no one to support them or to buy them a school uniform. As we visited the hospice patients and the widows who cannot work and have no family to support them, I realized when they say they have no money and no food, they literally mean they do not eat that particular day. All of these experiences challenge me to evaluate all that I have and nd ways to live on less to free up funds to support those in need, both here and away. There were so many moments for me that I knew were the work of God's mighty hand to make this trip very personal for me. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me helping in Tanzania or wherever He may lead me next. What a friend we have in Jesus. Bwana Asiwe! Amen! For more details of my trip, please go to Lori's blog: http:// odlemountain.blogspot.com.

Walk to Emmaus
The Walk to Emmaus is a 72 hour experience for church leaders and those wishing to increase their faith to a deeper level. Chrysalis is the youth version of the Walk to Emmaus. This is also a 3-day experience geared for youth entering 10th grade through their college sophomore year. Youth, if you are interested in sharing a weekend with other like-minded Christian youth and growing your faith, this will be an event you do not want to miss! The next Walks are Oct. 25-28 for men and Nov. 9-11 for women at First United Methodist Church, Marshalltown. The next Chrysalis Flight will be Sept. 1 to 3, 2012. If you have any questions or need a registration form, please contact Chuck or Dana Rosacker and we will be glad to help you with any questions. Also, Jay Beichley can help you with any questions.

Mens Breakfast
A t o u r J u l y 2 1 s t M e n s Breakfast, Doug Beane presented on Cape Breton Christian School in Nova Scotia. Cape Breton Christian School is an independent school offering an education for Pre-Primary to Grade 12 students in the Cape Breton Industrial region. Doug mentioned that they are not looking for donations, but rather people to come in and continue doing physical work to the building that they are renovating. There was discussion of possibly some men (and women) going there this fall to work on the building. We will continue this discussion at the next breakfast. The next breakfast will be Aug 25 at 8:00 am. We hope to see you there!

Promise Keepers
Seven men from Chapel Church attended the Promise Keeper Conference on July 13-14 in the McLeod Center. This was a great conference as PK has not been in the area for a number of years. There were slightly less than 5000 men attending, with about 47 from the Marshalltown area. Comments from Chapel Church attendees were;Great Speakers!,Great Singing!, Wonderful to hear 4000+ men sing acapella!. The CEO ended the conference by challenging us to each bring 4 more men next year to the conference, and he would promise that the conference would be in the UNI dome. So, the challenge is for our men to ask and bring four more men to next years conference. The dates will be announced next spring.

Self-Nomination Form for Chapel Opportunities Chapel Church is like other churches in that the basic functions and activities require participation. Without the involvement of our worshippers beyond attendance on Sunday morning, very little work for the Lord could be accomplished. God invites us to join Him in His work. We all have dierent abilities that support the goals and missions of the Chapel Church. The nomination committee would like to know how YOU would like to participate in life at Chapel. Some of you may have a strong desire to give in a particular way but have never been asked to serve. Please let us know by having every member of your family complete this survey. Use Column 1 for one person and Column 2 for another. More forms are available on the narthex table or from Ann Jackson. Check as many activities as you would like. If you have questions about the duties of the committees please contact a member of the nomination committee (Pastor Dean Kelly, Lori Odle, Cindy Krull, Jo Svendsen, Lois Groth, Beverly Iverson, Barbara Burt or Lynn Handorf). Please return this form to a committee member or in the oering plate by September 2nd.
