What is the
Bluetooth is a wireless personal area network technology (WPAN),a low-range wireless network technology used for linking devices to one another without a hardwired connection. Unlike the IrDA technology (which uses infrared connection) these devices do not need a direct line of sight to communicate, which makes them more flexible in use and allows room-to-room communication in small spaces. The aim of Bluetooth is to transit voice or data between devices with low-cost radio circuits, over a range of about ten to just under a hundred meters, using very

little power. Bluetooth technology is designed mainly for linking devices (such as printers, mobile phones, home appliances, wireless headsets, mouses, keyboards, etc.), computers, or PDAs to one tooth headsets. Bluetooth headsets act as advanced earpieces which include remote control features. Bluetooth technology was originally developed by Ericsson in 1994. In February 1998, a group called the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG), with over 2000 companies including Agere, Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia and Toshiba, was formed in order to produce the specifications for Bluetooth 1.0, which were published in July 1999.

another, without using a wired connection. Bluetooth is also becoming more and more commonly used in mobile phones, allowing them to communicate with computers or PDAs, and is especially widespread in handsfree accessories like Blue-

But how does it all flow in the air.

Bluetooth is the result of initiatives of nine leading communications and computer industry vendors including companies like 3-COM, Ericsson, LucentIBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, Toshiba etc This technology achieves its goal by embedding tiny, inexpensive, short-range transceivers into the electronic devices that are available today. The radio operates on the globally-available unlicensed radio band, 2.45 GHz (meaning there will be no hindrance for international travelers using Bluetooth-enabled equipment.), and supports data speeds of up to 721 Kbps, as well as three voice channels. The Bluetooth modules can be either built into electronic devices or used as an adaptor. For instance in a PC they can be built in as a PC card or externally attached via the USB port.

Each device has a unique 48-bit address from the IEEE 802 standard. Connections can be point-to-point or multipoint. The maximum range is 10 meters but can be extended to 100 meters by increasing the power. Bluetooth devices are protected from radio interference by changing their frequencies arbitrarily up to a maximum of 1600 times a second, a technique known as frequency hopping. They also use three different but complimentary error correction schemes. Built-in encryption and verification is provided. Bluetooth devices are classified according to three different power classes, as shown in the following table.
Power Class 1 2 3 Maximum Output 100 mW 2.5 mW 1 mW Power (20 dBm) (4 dBm) (0 dBm)

How many can you connect

A Bluetooth device operating in master mode can communicate with up to seven slave devices. To each of its slaves, the master Bluetooth device sends its own unique device address (similar to an Ethernet address) and the value of its internal clock. This information is used to calculate the complex frequency-hop sequence which is involved in the working of Bluetooth devices.

Perform a Boot Defragment There's a simple way to speed up windows startup: make your system do a boot defragment, which will put all the boot files next to one another on your hard disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one another, your system will start faster.

Is your Bluetooth giving you problems......???????
