Wine discussions lasted well into the night about which winery had the best vintage and tasting room.

Welcome to the club Morry. Were looking forward to seeing more of you, Kathy, and your bikes in the future. Thank you for supporting antique motorcycling in the Pacific Northwest.
Friday, July 13th Suislaw Falls Loop Fridays ride took the group on a sightseeing tour west through the Coast Range foothills, mill towns, and empty roads along picturesque rivers and streams. Our first stop was for fuel in the small mill town of Noti just west of Eugene. In the next photo you can see the huge log deck in the background.
Oregon Trail Chapter August 2012 Several attempts at breaking the bead proved fruitless, but Terry persevered and with the help of a repair kit, a few other riders and a 2x4, Terry was able to repair the tube and escape the dreaded chase truck.
After everyone filled their tanks, we saddled up and headed west to lunch at the Walton Store.
Well, this is the Suislaw Falls loop. If youve never seen Suislaw Falls, you should get a look at what we travelled 100 or so miles to see. The photo below shows most of the falls. These falls span the entire river, some 100 feet wide. When water levels are up, the falls are impressive. A fish ladder is installed alongside the falls for salmon and steelhead to use in high water situations.
The Walton Store serves sandwiches and the normal grill fare. Both the food and service were excellent. Van, the new owner, asks you to call ahead if youre bringing a large group.

After viewing the falls, the group returned to the Village Green for dinner. Norlene prepared one of her now famous garbage can turkeys, several salads and a wonderful strawberry dessert.
Earlier, Terry noticed a lack of air in his rear tire causing handling difficulties. So to return to the run, he decided to treat everyone to a lesson on changing a tube in the hot sun with very short irons. Visit us online at amcaotc.org
Oregon Trail Chapter August 2012 Saturday, July 23rd Gold Country Loop Saturdays ride took the group east to Dorena Lake, then south through the heart of gold country to Cottage Grove Lake. In between these two lakes were several covered bridges, miles of deserted back roads, small streams and little used campgrounds. The route included dozens of spectacular views. After our photo on the Dorena Covered Bridge, we headed to Wildwood Falls passing several other covered bridges on the way. A small day use area is located adjacent to the falls. Ample motorcycle parking is available. The group left Wildwood Falls for lunch at the head of a small forest creek. Here we see Chuck Hodsons bike holding up the sign.
Others soon joined and while waiting for lunch, talked about how the day was going and what type of sandwich they were going to eat. In the next photo, we see long time members Don Woodard, Theo Battaglia, Tom Krise and President Gene Walker discussing how dusty Doug McLaughlins Blue Harley had gotten running up the gravel road.
Wildwood Falls Parking
Wildwood Falls is on the Row River and is one of Oregons best swimming holes in late summer. Riders were able to walk out to the very edge of the falls and enjoy the cool breeze and spray being produced. A second drop into the deep pool doesnt appear in this photo.

Rosie brought along a few gold pans and Jim led a small group to the creek for an opportunity to strike it rich. In the next photo, Rick McMaken is showing off a pan full of gravel that just may pay for fuel back home. While nobody found much more than a few flakes, the experience brought to life the work involved to extract gold by hand.
Tom Ruttan passes out raffle tickets while dinner is made ready.
After lunch it was time to start back. A long climb out of the canyon was rewarded by a rest stop at the top of the ridge. This gave Jim a chance to count heads to make sure all had made the top.

If you werent there this year, dont pass up next years opportunity.

Presidents Paragraph
By Gene Walker For the third time, my longtime friend of over 48 years was anxious to get out of our soggy valley and head for California with me. Dixon is located 25 miles west of Sacramento, and including a couple stops, it is a comfortable 10-hour drive. The AMCA Fort Sutter Chapter was formed 30 years ago and this was their 12th annual National motorcycle show and swap meet and this year they were honoring side valve engine models. The event is held at the grassy clean fairgrounds offering on site camping with large restrooms and showers and RV hookups for only $25 per day. We stay at one of the four motels in town. Thursday night TV weather report predicted a big 102 degrees for Friday and a scorcher 104 on Saturday. Friday morning was already plenty warm when we arrived at the fairground and it usually takes us about 2 hours to set up and arrange all of the parts on tables. For the first time I brought a motorcycle to sell and my 1948 FL HarleyDavidson sold for full price before noon. Parts sales were good all day and a hearty breeze took the bite out of the HOT heat. The chapter also offers technical seminars, field meet, national judging and chapter awards for many categories of lots of vintage motorcycles brought in to display for both days. Once again at 6:00 PM the Fort Sutter members delivered an excellent dinner banquet followed by AMCA President Richard Spagnollis very informative talk. The chapter President followed with praise and recognition to their members who came thru with another successful event. Afterwards he invited all the area chapters to promote their up-coming events and activities. I spoke on behalf of OTC to welcome everyone to attend our 20th annual road run on their way up to British Columbia for the Northern Rockies National Road Run the following weekend. Presentations concluded with a raffle ticket drawing followed by live music. All in all it was a very enjoyable 2.5 hours. Saturday morning lots of hustling around to beat the afternoon 104 temperature. We, along with most of the other vendors, loaded up early because of the heat and NO customers. I was pleasantly surprised to see and talk with seven OTC members, three of which were also vendors.
