I
A fford from t.he .Rebbe 1/ crt
Free Translation Of A Sichah That The Rebbe Shlita 5,_;J
Its known that it has already been a few years since my father
inlaw (the Frierdikeh Rebbe O.B.M.) established that we should go
out in the summer to enhance our ,]llr:J and not our body.
And since this a _j) il >';[ from the ';.1 there are a lot of
great things about this (1) We have in us a extra strength
instilled by the (the Frierdikeh Rebbe O.B.M.) witch with
this we will surely be succes.c:ful (2) in this we have a big
responsibility to act as his emissaries in every way.
There is a story told about Manchus that once after
a farbreingen he passed by the Rebbe's house and he jumped
the yard and hung on the gate so the Chasidim asked him wat's
this? so he ans11ered . just like by a Shoe Store shoes a re
displayed in the and in a Glass Merchants window sits
glass, so to a Rebba's should hang .
.
so to everyone look at you like .a Lubavitcher
7
'
and if we dent act the way an emissary from ? "' ? people
would say ... _!:his is how e Chass.idim act this is how ,;11p act.J this
is how,: fl J ' i act ..J this is how people that are trying to spread
judiaism act in cities of New YOrk and there for you should know
it is a big and great responsibility even though we are sent on a
shlichus by the Rebbe not only not to make a Chilull Lubavitch
but to also make a Kiddish Lubavitch
And the Rebbe blessed the t> success.
I'
The Rebbe, the "Tzemach Tzedek," was ac-
customed to seeing his grandfather, the Alter Rebbe,
even after the latter' s passing, both when awake
and in nocturnal visions. On such occasions, the
Alter Reb be would resolve whatever uncertainties
the Tzemach Tzedek currently had in revealed and
esoteric Torah subjects. .
It once happened that while the Tzemach
Tzedek sat in isolated study, a number of Torah
questions occured to him which he was unable to
resolve. He very much wanted to envision his
grandfather, as he usually did, but this time, to his
great distress, he was unsuccessful.
The days passed. Early one morning, the
Tzemach Tzedek went to daven in the shul of his
father-in-law, the Mitteler Rebbe. As he passed
through th_e marketplace, he met a simple but G-d
fearing Jew who made his livelihood as a trades-
man in the market. That day happened to be a
market-day in Lubavitch, and the man approached
the T zemach T zedek and asked for a loan of three
_ rubles until evening or the next morning. The
Rebbe. answered that after davening, when
returned home, the man could come to him and the
Tzemach Tzedek would give him the loan.
The Reb be entered the shu! and prepared for
prayer. He had already wrapped his Talis over his
shoulders when he remembered the man's request,
and reflected that he had not acted properly in not
, granting the loan immediately. After all, it was
market-day. Maybe the man could have profited
somewhat in the meanwhile.
Immediately, the Rebbe removed his Talis,
' went home and got five rubles, and went off to the
' marketplace in search of the man. In the interim,
the village earls had already gathered, carriages
and all, at the market, and it was only with much
effort that he was able to find his party. When he
did, the Tzemach Tzedek gave him the loan andre-
turned to shu!.
When he had put on his Talis and Tefillin, the
Tzemach Tzedek suddenly saw his grandfather,
the Alter Rebbe, who appeared to him with a
beaming expression and interpreted all his Torah
questions.
The Alter .Rebbe then commented that one
who gives a loan to a Jewish person, wholeheart-
edly and without ulterior motives, simply doing
kindness toward one' s fellow Jew with love-as in
the verse, "VeAhavta I.;Rayacha Kamocha"
("Love your fellow as yourself")-merits that the
gates of the heavenly chambers are open before
him.
