Longtime Venue Celebrates Grand Opening on Artists Row & 10th Anniversary Among Highlights of Next First Friday Art Walk - AUGUST 3
Summer in the city on First Friday in Binghamton, NY, means artwalking, stopping FIRST on Artists Row on State Street in downtown on August 3. Start at Orazio Salati Studio and Gallery (204 State St., 1st Fl., Artists Row, between Henry and Lewis Streets), a longtime First Friday venue since the events inception in 2004 and one of several locations on the block-long Artists Row. Salatis hosting a grand opening celebration of his new gallery location, featuring an exhibit titled Passing Over of Spirits - Native American Images. These large paintings, completed by Orazio Salati in the early 1990s, depict a Native American massacre and represent illustrations from the international read book, A Tribe Returned. Other artwork by Salati will also be on exhibit (Thru August 2012). While on Artists Row, check out other First Friday venues with art shows, music, dining and more, all located a few steps from each other within this one city block. These venues include: Community Options, The Connelly Gallery, Cooperative Gallery, Merlins, Sophia, Sophia Studio, and Susan Jablon Mosaics, plus Burger Mondays Bar & Grille (23 Henry St./corner State St.). As you continue artwalking on First Friday, be sure to catch the 10th Anniversary celebration at Orion Beauty and Balance (118 Gorgeous Washington St.) with featured artist Santana Bickham and artisans Niki and Alexa Reynolds, abstract/surrealistic art. Also on display at Orion artworks by: Angela Cook, JoAnna Elizabeth Bock, Dani Naylor, and Douglas Bogart (Thru August 2012). This First Friday Art Walk, sponsored by M&T Bank and presented by the Gorgeous Washington Street Association (GWSA), will feature 29 locations in Binghamton, downtown, west side, and south side, and open August 3 from 6-9 PM, unless noted otherwise.
