1 Toad 9.6 to Toad 10.5

1.1 Save current settings

If you already is a ToadXpert user and want to switch ICC3 module to the new version should you consider that the installation of the new module will not be able to handle and incorporate the previous setting automatically. It will be possible for you to incorporate these files into you new Toad version but it will require some work. I strongly recommend that you take safety copies of the property files that you would like to preserve. These files might remain after the uninstallation of the previous version but it is still a god idea to always have a safety copy of these files. You will find the files under C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files. You can review a complete list of these files in Toad Help under 'Properties Files'. My recommendation is that you save at least: Connections.ini - Stores all your connection infromation (i.e the list of connection in the log in screen) Connectionpwds.ini - Stores your password (encrypted). SavedSQL.xml - Stores your SQL history.

1.2 Install Toad 10.5

You can order the installation of the new ToadXpert 10.5 module from Software Catalogue. Your Helpdesk will install the module and at the same time remove the previous installation since they cant co-exist. When you start up Toad 10.5 the first time will you get an wizard that will help you to set up your Toad installation as you want it. There are a few things to remember: 1) You will not be able to import settings from the pervious installations since it does not exist anymore. If you want to move these settings you have to do it manually by following the instruction in the sections above and after this one. 2) In the end of the installation wizard will you get a question regarding Oracle licensing. You can check all those boxes:

1.3 Add saved settings

The new version of Toad has changed a lot. One of the news is that you now will find the user files in Document and settings instead for under Program files. This means that when you add you saved files should you do it under the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\10.5 If you have saved a password file you must remember to first open Toad and create a connection and check the save password option. Close Toad and then copy your ini files. If you dont do this will the password file be wiped.

2 Unicode
One of the major news for us with this Toad version is that this one is Unicode compliant. This does not come out of the box so it requires that you have proper regional and language settings on your computer and that you use an Oracle Client with the proper NLS_LANG. I suggest that you take a look at this short Coffee Break session from ToadSoft that explains how to make this work: http://www.toadworld.com/Portals/0/assets_ifs/flashdemos/T10UsingUnicode/index.htm

SQL Tracker (Client) - Formerly known as SQL Monitor, this feature captures SQL executions from an Oracle application running on Windows to help debug a problem or assist in QA.
