Stage 1 Desired Results Goals/Content Standard(s): Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are writing about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is . . .). Understanding (s)/goals There is a difference between fact and opinions. Not everyone will have the same opinion.

Essential Question(s): Why is it important to distinguish between facts and opinions? Is it OK to have different opinions?

Students will know That opinions are a judgment about a person or thing.

Students will be able to Create a show me presentation about their favorite book using a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing.

Stage 2 Assessment Evidence Performance Task(s): (Grasps) G-students will create a show me presentation telling their opinions (will draw a picture and write a sentence) about their favorite book. R- students will be kindergarten students A-audience will be other students in the classroom. S- the presentations that the students create will be saved and students can refer to them when looking for a new book to read within the classroom library P- students will create a show me presentation (an app where they can draw and dictate at the same time) S-students will be assessed using a rubric Stage 3 Learning Plan Learning Activities: (WHERETO or Gagne) W- explain to the students that we will be learning about facts and opinions H- break into a Concept Attainment-giving facts and opinions, kids raise their hand when they can tell me some differences between facts and opinions

Other Evidence: In the first lesson the students will practice distinguishing between facts and opinions in whole group, small group, and partners before beginning their performance assessment.

E explain that facts are true, that everyone agrees on, and opinions are based on what each person likes or doesnt like. Pick objects around the room and have kids (as a whole group) practice making facts and opinions. Ask kids to distinguish between both R Show kids a picture of their playground. Have them group up by their favorite piece of equipment. As a small group they will meet and come up with 1 or 2 opinions about why they picked that piece. Share as a group. Ask students Is it OK to have different opinions? Can opinions be right or wrong? Is it OK to disagree? Can you have facts and opinions about the same thing? E Students will then break off into pairs will be shown a picture and have to make an opinion and tell their partner. They will then tell each other why it is an opinion and not a fact. T O- Students will then work individually to create their own opinion piece about their favorite book using the show me app(draw a picture from the book, along with the title) Will give example if needed

Differentiation Techniques: -high level-have the students give 3 or 4 more opinions about the books Low level- encourage them to have at least 1 opinion
