Review of Australian Standards. To keep abreast of progress in industry, Australian Standards are subject
to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new edit ions as necessary. It is
important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest edit ion, and any
amendments thereto.
Full detail s of all Australi an Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australi a
Catalogue of Publications; this information is supplemented each month by the magazine ‘The Australi an
Standard’, which subscribing members receive, and which gives details of new publications, new editi ons
and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards.
Suggesti ons for improvements to Australian Standards, addressed to the head off ice of Standards Australia,
are welcomed. Notif ication of any inaccuracy or ambiguit y found in an Australi an Standard should be made
without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken.

PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee on Oil and Gas
Measurement. It is Part 4 of a series of Standards dealing with petroleum liquid measurement
systems.
Other Standards or proposed Standards in this series are as follows:
The term ‘informative’ has been used in this Standard to define the application of the
appendix to which it applies. An ‘informative’ appendix is only for information and guidance.

volume due to differences in temperature between the water in a reference measure and that

in the vessel, and to allow for the differences between these temperatures and the reference
temperatures, when determining or checking the volume of a vessel.
This Standard does not set out a calibration procedure nor consider the uncertainties in
temperature measurement, for which reference should be made to other relevant Standards.
4 DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this Standard, the definitions below apply.
4.1 Measure — a reference volume standard traceable to Australian National Standards.
4.2 Shall — indicates that a statement is mandatory.
4.3 Should — indicates a recommendation.
4.4 Tank (or prover) —a volumetric vessel to be calibrated.
4.5 Volumetric correction — the true volume of a vessel minus the indicated
volume (see Clause 8.6).
