samo damas tapah saucam ksantir arjavam eva ca jnanam vijnanam astikyam brahma-karma svabhava-jam ~Bhagavat Gita 18.

42 Peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, wisdom, knowl edge, and religiousness--these are the qualities by which the brahmanas work. Presently these qualities are rare to find. People all over the world are lost i n the Maya. But without complete wisdom there is no escape from this maya. We hi de our laziness and ignorance by saying reading scriptures is ultimate and we wi ll attain Brahmin state. But scripture says once Narad muni try to gain divine k nowledge by reading but without self-realization he failed and was in a deep dep ression. sa-puranan pancha-vedan sashtrani vividha nich | gyatyapa-na antma-vidyen naradohi susocha hi || Vedabhasat pura tap-troya-matren shokita | Pachatwabhyas-sobismara-bhangabaischa shokita||~ panchodoshi Bhagwan Sankar said one will gain divine knowledge or understand the true meanin g of scriptures by practicing yoga only. Without practicing yoga reading book wi ll dazzle your vision and make you more confused. Anek-sata-sankhabhistarka-vakaranadhivi Patita sastrajaal pragya te bimohita. ~yogviz-8 Means practicing hundreds of books, debates, grammar will end up in sastra jaal (scriptural confusion) and glare everything. Mothitwa chataru vedan sarvasastrani chaiba hi Saraswa yogivi pito-stu-krang pibanti pandita. ~Gyansankalini tantra- 51 Churning four vedas and other sastras a yogi will eat the cream and others (Pund it) will gain only ghol (the empty part of the milk after taking the cream durin g churning). So without yoga everything is incomplete. Yogstapo damo danang bratan souchan daya grina Vidya vigyan mastikaymetad brahman laxmanang Without yoga all these qualities like daan (donation), vrata (Initiation), vidya (knowledge) etc. are gone. We use to point the scriptures but never follow them (truly). Using the yoga as a ladder our ancestors become the absolute knowledge able sages but we the next generation are in deep darkness of ignorance. We ofte n make joke and satire the persons who are in the path of yoga. Our approach is like we will not do yoga and let other also not to do it. But at the same time we thought we are following scriptures, dont know how ignorant we are? In Bhagwat G ita Lord Krishna says: tapasvibhyo dhiko yogi jnanibhyo pi mato dhikah karmibhyas cadhiko yogi tasmad yogi bhavarjuna ~ SBG 6:46 A yogi is greater than the ascetic, greater than the empiricist and greater than the fruitive worker. Therefore, O Arjuna, in all circumstances, be a yogi. Param yogi Mahadev says- Yog-hinann kathonn gyann mokhadann bhabati-swari ~ yogv iz 31, parameshwari (Ma Parvati) without yog how can it be possible to achieve m okshya (enlighten)? Sada Shiva further says gyan-nistho virokto-hopi darmoggo-hopi jitendriyo Bina yogeno deva-hopi na muktin lovete priye. ~yogviz-31 Hai priye (Oh dear) gyanban (knowledgeable), sangsar virakta (monk), dharmagya ( religious people), jitendriya (one who masters his organs like eye, nose etc), e ven devas (demi gods) cant attain Brahman state (mukti or enlighten) without yoga . So we find the yogi superior than everything so it is our duty to be a yogi. S o here question arises what is yoga? Sarbo chinta parityago nischinto yog ucchate~ yog sastra When human eliminates his/her all thoughts that time the laya or dissolution of the mind is called yoga "Yogash chitta vritti nirodha" ~Patanjali Yog sutra, verse- 2 Chitta: mind. Vritti: wave, desire, the action of rolling, modification, way of being. Nirodha: cessation, Yoga is that which end minds action (Vritti) Yogat songjayote gyann yogo majyokchitta ~Aditya Puran Practicing yoga generates divine knowledge and chitta (mind) will calm down. So to make mind calm we need to control pran vayu (breath the vital force)

Shivadi krimi paryantan praninan pranbadhanam Nihsas sasrupena mantroha yan bartate priye ~ Kularnava Tantra All prani (being) even Shivadi krimi (from divine human to maggot) take breaths and this breath is mantra. So only pran vayu (vital force) is the only mantra we should practice. indriy mano ntho manonthas tu mruta |~ hathayog pradipika 4:29 The master of all the senses is the mind; the king of the mind is the breath. So c ontrolling Pran (breath) we will transform from slaves of the mind into masters of ourselves. We live as servants of our mind, constantly satisfying its demands . And yoga is the only way to escape. In our next episode how can we easily cont rol pran or breath will be discussed..
