Weather gives Waukesha County Fair attendance a boost

The 170th Waukesha County Fair, sponsored by Aurora Health Care, had a total of 125,261 fairgoers enjoy Food, Farm & Fun at the Fair in 2012. The annual fiveday event ran Wednesday, July 18 through Sunday, July 22 on the Waukesha Expo Grounds. The extreme heat wave ended on Tuesday, just in time for the Fairs start on Wednesday. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s helped bring in large crowds throughout the 5-day Fair. Comparing the last few years of attendance, Fridays total attendance was the highest for a Friday since 2007 and Saturday was the second highest since 2006. The weather cooperated for us this

year and we are extremely pleased with the high attendance we saw. The hard work of our Board Members and volunteers really paid off this year and we had a great Fair, said Shari Black, Executive Director. The Waukesha County Fair Association has a link to a survey to help shape the future of the Fair on its website at www.WaukeshaCountyFair.com. The Waukesha County Fair Association is a 501(c) 3 non-profit volunteer organization that is completely separate and receives no funding from Waukesha County or the City of Waukesha. The Waukesha County Fair will celebrate its 171st anniversary July 17-21, 2013 on the Waukesha Expo Grounds.

Owned by local historian Irene Blau, the Sinter Klausen Christmas Marktlocated at W15909 Main St., Germantownhas been a community go-to shop for 24 years. The store offers a wide array of exclusive German Christmas imports, including more than 1,000 unique mouth-blown glass ornaments and tree toppers; colorful wood ornaments by Steinbach; nutcrackers and smoking-men collectibles by Steinbach and Ulbricht; Wendt and Kuhn angel figurines; Advent calendars; Inge-Glas ornament sets; Oberammergau hand-carved Nativity figures; books and gifts; and more. traditions from my grandparents, to share with my nine children, she said. Sinter Klausen has historical significance as well. The business has been recognized by county, state and national officials for the resulting Community Development Style. The half-timber designs encouraged by our foundation has reflected the original half-timber buildings built in the 1850s in this township, Blau said. The Historical Society restored the Wolf Haus/shoemakers shop built in 1855 at the Dhiensville Historic Park (original settlement on Holy Hill Road), and Sinter Klausen added the design to the shop in 1995, Blau added. She said living in Germantown brought about the interest in marketing the name in 1988 when the Deutschtadt Heritage Foundation was formed. The seasonal business is open July through October and November through December. We enjoy Christmas in July each year with our anniversary discount all month, Blau noted. Summer hours, beginning July 1, are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. Warning lights send messages you cant ignore

(NAPSI)Safety on the road is no accident. For example, when a warning light illuminates on a cars dashboard, it is alerting you to a situation that requires your attention. While not all warning lights are a sign that disaster is imminent, no warning indicator should ever be ignored. Thats the word from the experts at AAA, who encourage motorists to read their owners manual and know what each of the warning lights in their vehicle means. To help, they offer the following tips: Oil Pressure Light The oil pressure light is usually an oilcan symbol or the word OIL. It comes on when there is a drop in engine oil pressure. Of all the warning lights, the oil pressure light indicates the greatest potential for serious mechanical damage. If the oil pressure warning light comes on and stays on, pull off the road at the earliest safe opportunity, shut off the engine and call for assistance. Engine Temperature Light The engine temperature light is usually a thermometer symbol or the word TEMP. It comes on when the engine temperature is unsafe for your vehicle. Unless the engine temperature is quickly brought under control, major damage may occur. If there are any signs of a cooling system leak, pull off the road at the earliest safe opportunity, shut off the engine and call for assistance. Be careful when opening the hood in the presence of steam, and never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Charging System Light The charging system light is usually a battery symbol or the word ALT or GEN. It comes on when the vehicle electrical system is no longer being supplied power by the alternator. If this light comes on, shut down all unnecessary electrical loads such as the radio, heater or air-conditioning, then drive the vehicle to a repair facility immediately for further inspection. Check Engine Light The check engine light comes on when there is a problem affecting the vehicles exhaust emissions. If the light comes on and stays on, make an appointment with an auto repair shop to have the problem checked in the near future. However, if the check engine light begins flashing repeatedly, the catalytic converter is over-heating. Should this occur, drive the vehicle to a repair shop immediately for further diagnosis. Disregarding a flashing check engine light could start a fire, destroy the catalytic converter and result in necessary repairs that could easily exceed $1,000.

Use a tire gauge to check since a tire can be 50 percent underinflated but still not appear flat. Make it a habit to check tire pressure every month and always before a long trip. Use the vehicle manufacturers recommended tire pressure. Additionally, check tire tread depth by using the penny test. Insert Abe Lincolns head upside down into the tread. If you see his entire head, its time to replace the tire.

GeminiCares, Inc. is seeking RN to become part of our growing home care team in the Dodge/Ozaukee/Washington/Waukesha areas. Very flexible schedule to start but may add hours as our need grows. Our RNs are responsible for assessing, monitoring, and evaluating services for elderly clients, as well as adults and children with physical and developmental disabilities in their homes. The Personal Care RN Supervisor also provides direct supervision of our PCWs with responsibilities to include one on one interpretation, delegation and/or demonstration of cares with clients, through documentation of cares, communication and recommendation to the interdisciplinary case management team, follow up assessment as needed, ongoing care coordination, quality assurance and ongoing monitoring of services. This position provides linkage between Gemini and the Managed Care Organization. Requirements include: Must have current WI RN license Training and experience in the provision of personal care services or in a related program; At least one year of supervisory or administrative experience in personal care services or in a related program; Valid drivers license and a good driving record.
