. Model Answer: The pie charts show six important aspects that lead to insomnia for two groups of people, interviewed during April 2004. The aspects are depression, ill health, medication, drinks with caffeine, environmental factors, and stress. The people in group A are between the ages of 20 and 40 while the people in group B are between the ages of 60 and 80. The people were interviewed during April 2004 and the information is represented in percentages. According to the information, stress was the most common cause of insomnia for people in group A while ill health was the least common cause. Ten percent of people in group A indicated depression and environmental factors respectively as the key factors. Six percent of respondents in group A indicated that their insomnia is caused by medication and only 5 % indicated that ill health is the main cause. As shown in the chart for group B, most people indicated that their sleeplessness is mainly caused by ill health and medication. These are followed by medication and drinks with caffeine, while stress and environmental factors cause sleeplessness for small percentages of people in this group.
It is clear from the charts that different factors cause insomnia for people in different age groups. The largest percentage of people in group A (40 %) regarded stress as the most common cause of their sleeplessness while the largest percentage of people in group B identified ill health as the most common cause.
