CALL FOR EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS

Applicants Sought for Editorial Board of the new academic journal, Native American and Indigenous Studies Deadline: August 30, 2012 or until Board is named The Council of the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association seeks applicants for the position of editorial board members of Native American and Indigenous Studies. The term of service is for four years, with appointment made by Council after consultation with the Journals editor. Scope of NAIS: NAIS will be published two times a year by the University of Minnesota Press. A blind/peerreviewed scholarly journal, NAIS is a major initiative of the association, and the NAISA Council intends for it to become a primary vehicle for publication of high-quality scholarship in Native and Indigenous studies. Qualification and requirements of candidates: Key qualities sought for the position of editorial board members: an established record of scholarship in Native and Indigenous studies, including strong awareness of the worldwide scope of Indigenous studies; commitment to actively serving in an advisory capacity to the editor and to furthering her/his vision of the Journal and fulfilling its mandate; and willingness to take up various duties appropriate to the role of editorial board, including (at the editors discretion) the assessment of manuscripts. Candidates must be members in good standing of NAISA, and maintain their membership for the duration of the appointment. Major responsibilities of the editorial board of NAIS include:

working closely with Council and the editor to develop the journals editorial vision, processes, and practices; providing expertise, advice, and assessment assistance to the editor; assisting the editor in identifying potential reviewers; assisting the editor in deciding which manuscripts to publish; and helping the editor identify potential journal manuscripts for submission.

Applicants should have recognized expertise in the field, possess editorial experience, and be able to lead an active editorial board in working effectively with publishing professionals. Search procedure: Applicants will be reviewed by the NAISA Council immediately after the deadline submission date. The application packet should include:
