take immense pleasure in reaching you through this communication in the First Edition of our News Letter since the new Committee has taken over. Let me first of all thank you wholeheartedly for reposing faith once again in me as well as the current team. On behalf of myself, and the team, I assure you that we shall strive hard to maintain the dignity and uniqueness of the Club, for which the Club stands as a good example. Every Committee since the inception of the club has done their best to develop the club to this level. In the same angle this Committee also will not leave any stone unturned to ensure the club develops. This Committee after a lot of deliberations will take into account the areas which may require attentions with the changing times. The foremost of all these is the Catering System. The entire procedures we would like to revamp and bring in more and more of transparency in deciding on the prices as well as procedures to be followed for the purchases. In the present times, the Members and the family require items which are new and also which would be delicious. We are now in the process of having dialogues with the contractors through the Catering Committee Member and his sub-committee. In order to achieve this, the first one that we have identified is to modernize the kitchen more. We propose to bring in better kitchen equipments for both preparation and preservation so that our Members will get more hygienic and hot food. The other area is to improve the washing systems with the help of better technology. The next agenda which will go simultaneously with Catering is to bring in some changes in the entertainment sector. The Committee Member along with his Sub-Committee is working out various proposals as to how to bring in changes so that more number of members will attend and also participate with their families. All these details will be published in due course when finalised. By now, you would have noticed that the House-keeping is already swung into action and has vowed that every place will get equal attention towards improving sanitation and hygiene. The committee does not propose to take up any huge project since the basics now require attention. Our Member in-charge of Magazine and Library has already chalked out plans to improve the attendance in the Library and make it more lively for the wards to participate. He will also publish the plan of action through this Newsletter to everyone.

Camaraderie

We are not just Engineers and Architects but we are ardent sportspersons. We come from a University that gave illustrious sportspersons who represented the country. No wonder our club is agog with the sound of sports all through the day. A typical day dawns at our club with the ever enthusiastic bunch of shuttlers who toss and smash daily with a lot of friendly banter in between. These men and women have contributed immensely to the sporting infrastructure at the club by raising funds when they are not busy playing badminton. Not to be left behind, the tennis pros also join the party with their delicate drops and pleasing passing shots. The young and the old mix with ease and enjoy each others company over the game of tennis. The late afternoons start with a clatter at the Snooker & Billiards room where some early birds practice their shots with their cues. The evening heats up not just with the focus lights but also with some fierce but friendly competitions for supremacy. At around 4 pm the tiny tots and teens swarm in to the club for tennis and badminton thanks to various coaching activities at the club. The evening sees some action at the cards table with members vying with each other over a drink to best the other with their shrewd card play. Some even share their bag of tricks regularly with monthly bridge classes. Every now and then the carom room rocks with back shots and the table tennis room tangles with the ping pong ball. Cricketers are a busy lot even though they play only on weekends. A dedicated bunch of young and old practice every Sunday at the nets. The inter-club cricket tournaments keep the cricketers busy over 8 months of the year. So, which sport are you interested in? Why not join the fun? After all this is the best club for sports! Watch this space for monthly updates on Sports at the Alumni Club!

Palindrome (line unit) Reads the same in both directions line by line. Now, read the poem Surprising Shock A poem with a twist. Do you notice an interesting and uncommon feature in this ? If you read all the articles, you will come to know that uncommon feature. SURPRISING SHOCK Entering the lonely house with my wife I saw him for the first time Peering furtively from behind a bush Blackness that moved, A shape amid the shadows, A momentary glimpse of gleaming eyes Revealed in the ragged moon. A closer look (he seemed to turn) might have Put him to flight forever I dared not (For reasons that I failed to understand), Though I knew I should act at once. I puzzled over it, hiding alone, Watching the woman as she neared the gate. He came, and I saw him crouching Night after night. Night after night He came, and I saw him crouching, Watching the woman as she neared the gate. I puzzled over it, hiding alone Though I knew I should act at once, For reasons that I failed to understand I dared not Put him to flight forever. A closer look (he seemed to turn) might have Revealed in the ragged moon A momentary glimpse of gleaming eyes A shape amid the shadows, Blackness that moved. Peering furtively from behind a bush, I saw him, for the first time Entering the lonely house with my wife

Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed

Club news contunies on pg no 25

Director: Christopher Nolan Cast: : Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Marion Cotillard The movie is set 8 years after Batmans yet untold heroic defeat of the Joker. Gotham is now a city of peace, with the Harvey Dent Act serving as a means of curtailing all the organized crime in the city. Commissioner Gordon, torn between telling the truth about Batman and keeping the peace, is on the cusp of resigning and Bruce Wayne, at one time a billionaire playboy, is now a recluse. The Dark Knight Rises is the end of an era, the final act of the darker and grittier representations of the Batman story spearheaded by Chris Nolan. In the last part of the trilogy, Batman comes up against Bane, the league of shadows and the legacy of his former mentor Ras Al Ghul. The introduction of Anne Hathaway as the morally ambiguous Selena Kyle a.k.a Cat Woman, makes for an interesting chemistry. In this film, Wayne is a changed man. Trapped by his own sacrifice, he is little more than a shadow of his former self. The Dark Knight Rises is a film that follows not just Batmans battle against Bane and the league of shadows but his battle against his own demons and desperation. Despite the great concept, the film itself falls a little flat. As a follow up to Heath Ledgers sociopathic Joker, Tom Hardys Bane feels like a caricature of a villain. The script, unlike the Dark Knight, is under more stress than ever having to tie up all the loose ends of the franchise in a mere three hours. Though the Dark Knight Rises delivers as far as breathtaking visuals, a stellar cast and amazing action sequences are concerned the overall punch was a little lacking. Still worth a watch though!

One day, the young lion asked his mom: Mom, where is the happiness? Mom replied: Its on your tail. So the young lion keeps on chasing after his tail. But after a whole day of trying, he failed to get the happiness that was on his tail. Then he told his mom about this, his mom smiled and said: Son, you dont really need to Chase after your happiness, as long as you keep going and moving forward, Your happiness will always be with you. Wish everyone of you find your happiness. Please do forward to all your friends and wish the happiness is with them always.

You cant decide the length of life, but you can control how you want to live it You cant control the weather, but you can control your mood. You cant change your look, but you can smile. You cant control others, but you can control yourself. You cant foresee tomorrow, but you can utilize today wisely. You cant win everything, but you can try your very best to achieve that. Hope everyone can face the daily life positively and always happy - Dr.S.Natarajan (M.No.876)

THE HOPE... FAITH... PEACE... LOVE... BELIEVE...

The moment you make a conclusion, you have stopped your growth; you have stopped and destroyed the possibilities of life. Whatever you make out of the mind is of no true significance. As a device, yes -but in the ultimate sense it does not mean anything, because it may take one shape today and another shape tomorrow; the mind is fluid, you can make anything out of it. How it is shaped simply depends on how it is influenced. I f you look deeply, what you call your mind is really something you have borrowed from thousands of people around you. You have accumulated this mind in bits and pieces. Your mind is just your background depending on the kind of family you come from, your education and religion, the country or society you belong to and the world you are living in. The intellect is just a survival tool, a limited aspect of your life. Survival is essential, but not fulfilling. If you want to go into deeper dimensions of life, first you need the necessary instruments. Right now you experience life with just sense organs by seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling. With these, you cannot know anything beyond the physical. You cannot measure the depth of the ocean with a foot scale. That is what is happening with people right now. They are approaching the deeper dimensions of life without the necessary instruments. So they jump to wrong conclusions. People are eager to jump to conclusions because without a conclusion, they have no substance of their own. What you call as myself, that person or that personality is just a bundle of conclusions that you have made about life. But whatever conclusion you have made, you are bound to be wrong because life does not fit into any conclusions that you make. To look at it very simply, just take one human being. Maybe you met somebody 20 years ago and did not like what he was doing. So you concluded that he was not a good man. Now suppose you met this person today after 20 years, he might have become that most wonderful

The ultimate test of a relationship is to disagree but to hold hands

human being, but your mind will not allow you to experience this person the way he is right now. So the moment you make a conclusion, you have stopped you r growth; you have stopped and destroyed the possibilities of life. A true (Spiritual) process does not mean jumping into another set of conclusions. When you dare to exist here without any conclusions, willing to look all the time, willing to exist here as just a small particle of this existence, then you will know the limitlessness of the existence. MUST-HAVe VeGGIeS

Veggies are an important part of everyones diet. They contain dozens of important nutrients and have loads of dietary fiber. And just by getting your daily quota of five to nine servings, you help build your bodys immunity to fight things like cancer, heart disease and diabetes. So what are the top veggies you should be eating to boost your diseasefighting potential? TOMATOES Though technically a fruit, tomatoes are most often served like a vegetable. Full of lycopene, these beautiful red orbs (and all tomato-based products) are renowned for their cancerfighting capabilities. Not only are they chock full of vitaminy goodness (from vitamins A to K), they also keep our blood pressure in check and help to reduce the number of free radicals in our bodies. BROCCOLI Few foods measure up to the disease-fighting potential of broccoli. This cruciferous veg is packed with antioxidants that help reduce the risk of stomach, lung and rectal cancers. And because broccoli is rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C and folate, it is also good at boosting your immunity to colds and flus. BRUSSELS SPROUTS These little green veggies are especially important for pregnant woman because theyre packed with folic acid, a B-vitamin that prevents neural tube defects. Brussels sprouts are also packed with vitamins C and K as well as fiber, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids. CARROTS These orange-wonders are loaded with eye, skin and hair-enriching nutrients. Theyre also the richest vegetable source of some important antioxidants, like vitamin A. And because theyre rich in vitamin C, carrots protect your cardiovascular system from damage. SQUASH A good source of anti-inflammatory nutrients like vitamin C and beta-carotene, squash, especially summer squash, can help treat dozens of conditions including asthma,

osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Squash is also rich in potassium, magnesium and fiber. SWEET POTATO This root vegetable has dozens of anti-cancer nutrients like vitamin A, C and manganese. Theyre also a good source of fiber and iron, so not only do they give you energy, they can also help regulate your digestive system. EGGPLANT High in heart healthy nutrients, eggplants are rich in antioxidants like nasunin (a unique compound that protects your brain cells from damage). And because eggplants are loaded with fiber and potassium, researchers believe they may reduce your risk of stroke and dementia. BELL PEPPERS Whether you prefer red, orange or yellow, bell peppers are packed with dozens of hearthealthy nutrients like lycopene and folic acid. And recent research suggests digging into a pepper every day may lower your risk of developing lung, colon, bladder and pancreatic cancers. SPINACH This chlorophyll-packed type of produce is an excellent source of almost every vitamin and nutrient you need. Scientists believe a diet heavy in spinach may be able to prevent everything from heart disease to colon cancer, and arthritis to osteoporosis. ONIONS These pungent smelling veggies are particularly good for people suffering from (or at risk of developing) osteoporosis. Thats because onions are loaded with a peptide called GPCS which scientists believe slows your bodys loss of calcium. Onions may also be useful in the fight against heart disease and diabetes because theyre loaded with vitamin C and folate.
