Administration HEAD OFFICE - The Headquarters of the Authority is in Dar es Salaam in the United Republic of Tanzania. - The operations of the Authority are directed from Head Office under different departments. Each department has headed by a Head of Department (Manager) and each of whom is responsible to the Managing Director. The departments are as follows: Finance, Civil, Mechanical, Human Resources, Traffic & Operations, Marketing & Commercial and Planning & Corporate Affairs. There are also sub departments/Units such as Safety, Supplies and Information Technology in the TAZARA structure and each Unit is headed by Head of that Unit. REGIONAL CENTRES The Tanzania Cost and Profit Centre (TCPC) is the Tanzania region of TAZARA whose headquarters is in Dar es Salaam. It is headed by a Regional General Manager. The Zambia Cost and Profit Centre (ZCPC) is the Zambian region of TAZARA whose headquarters is in Mpika, Zambia. It is headed by a Regional General Manager. OTHER BUSINESS UNITS Mununga and Kongolo Quarries These were established during construction of the line and have been maintained as strategic none core business units to continue supplying ballast for track maintenance. Each quarry has the capacity to produce over 80,000 tonnes of ballast per annum. Besides producing ballast for the track, the quarries also produce aggregates, chippings and crusher dust as by products for sale to the public. Mununga Quarry is based near Mpika in Zambia while Kongolo Quarry is based near Mbeya in Tanzania. Kongolo Concrete Sleeper Making Plant Construction of the concrete sleeper plant, which is located in Mbeya, Tanzania, next to the Kongolo Quarry, commenced in 1991 and completed in 2001. However production of sleepers started in 2003. The plant has a capacity of producing more than 100,000 sleepers per annum and can produce concrete sleepers for other railways too of different track gauges. Workshops Mpika and Dar es Salaam Workshops in Zambia and Tanzania respectively are as well highly equipped workshops manufacturing both light and heavy equipment spares and machinery to any specification, They are engaged in foundry works as well as Oxygen gas production at competitive rates. Apart from carrying out internal engineering and maintenance works, they produce wide range of spare parts for the external markets which include the mines. Also we have Mbeya Workshop in Tanzania has well trained personnel handling repairs and rehabilitation of locomotives. Currently it is rehabilitating a fleet of 18 Diesel Electric Locomotives. It has enough capacity to handle repairs or rehabilitation works from other railway lines too. Main offices and business units

Management Team
The Managing Director (MD) is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority and, subject to the control of the Board. He/she is responsible for the administration of the affairs of the Authority. The CEO is appointed by the Board through competitive selection from the Republic of Zambia. The Deputy Managing Director (DMD) is appointed by the Board through competitive selection from the United Republic of Tanzania. TAZARA is divided into two regions i.e. Tanzania and Zambia Regions. Each region is headed by a Regional General Manager (RGM) who is responsible for the administration of the affairs of the Authority in the region and is under the control and supervision of the Managing Director. These regions are required to be self-sustaining units of the Authority operating as cost profit centers on sound commercial principles. The RGMs are appointed by the Board.
