Directional High-Gain antenna Omni-directional low-gain antenna For use with blue2space products

Directional antenna The directional antenna, developed in-house, is specially designed for long range Bluetooth communication. Its higher gain extends the range of a Bluetooth cell from the nominal 10-100 m to 250-1300 meters and even further (depending on the surrounding environment) without increasing the output power. With its 35 horizontal and 30 vertical transmissions, you can cover a large area at a distance. Using a Class-2 Bluetooth radio, we achieved communication up to 1800 meters, using a Class-1 Bluetooth radio chip we expect to reach even further. Omni-directional antenna The omni-directional antenna, also developed in-house, is specially designed for medium range Bluetooth communication. Its 360-area coverage extends the range of a Bluetooth cell from the nominal 10meters to 48+ meters and even further (depending on the surrounding environment) without increasing the output power. Using a Class-1 Bluetooth radio chip, we expect to reach well over 100 meters. Antenna product combination When a directional antenna is combined with a blue2link for long-range pointto-point or blue2access for long range LAN access, it retains all of the blue2links and blue2accesss capabilities, which means it can for example constitute an extended-range Bluetooth link or Bluetooth LAN Access Point. This configuration provides an extended kind of area coverage. A complete family of smart antennas, especially designed to support true mobile applications, is presently under development.

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS For more information about the blue2link or blue2access, we refer to the product sheets. The information in this section mainly describes the added benefits of using a blue2link/blue2access with directional antenna instead of just the omni-directional. The directional antenna provides extended-range network access for devices equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology. Different versions (under development) of our antennas are suitable for different situations, which all have in common that the physical shape and size of the Bluetooth cell is modified to suit the particular application. Connections over distances up to and beyond 1300 meters are now possible. THE ANTENNAS The blue2link with directional antenna is designed for point-to-point transmissions over long range. It provides Bluetooth coverage within a relatively narrow angle (35 horizontal, 30 vertically). This makes the transmitted Bluetooth radio signals reach farther than they would if the standard version of the blue2link was used. At the same time it makes it possible to receive weaker signals in that direction, such as the ones from Bluetooth units farther away than the normal Bluetooth cell size usually allows for. This is very suitable for, to mention a few examples, Bluetooth access in corridors, longrange point-to-point connections (for example outdoors, or inside very large rooms, like warehouses), and public hotspots where the Bluetooth Access Point cannot be placed nearby. The Blue2link with a high-gain antenna will also be available in a wide-area coverage version, which will provide Bluetooth access in a sector up to 180 wide. If this version is used as a Bluetooth Access Point, the wide-area antenna with blue2access can be mounted on a building to give total coverage in front of it or below. You could also mount the antenna on high buildings to create wide area coverage for several other buildings.

USAGE SCENARIOS Last Mile Solutions: The blue2link or blue2access with directional antenna could be used to connect residential areas with a broadband base station and provide Internet connections without cables to every household. When extracting natural resources, control and monitoring of heavy machinery and processes have until now been a matter of being at the site, or installing expensive cable solutions to a control station far away. The Blue2Space product family offers an easy and lowcost solution. With directional antenna, blue2link, blue2access and blue2repeat, it is possible to wirelessly control and monitor the extraction over 1300 meters and beyond. The same method can be used for other telemetry applications, such as remote reading of power, gas, and water meters. Security: With the Blue2space product family, it is possible to build up the complete infrastructure of a security system. No expensive cabling is needed, and therefore cannot be damaged or cut. The Bluetooth wireless technology, with its encryption and frequency hopping techniques, provides for a robust and secure system. The products can of course be used to improve an already existing security system. blue2access with directional antenna serve as an access points, and allow e.g. surveillance cameras, detectors and PDAs for security guards to interact wirelessly. They can also be used to transmit data, e.g. from a surveillance camera, wirelessly over long distances, if large outdoor areas must be covered.

Technical Specifications Directional High-Gain Antenna

General Overview The unit consists of a blue2link or blue2access with a high-gain antenna, instead of the standard internal omni-directional antenna, you get a long-range beam point-to-point connection today, or point-to-multipoint with Bluetooth wireless technology over large distances. Several interfaces available today: Ethernet interface, RJ-45 connector. Serial interface (only blue2link), RS-232 (DTE/DCE) or RS422 connector interfaces. To be developed and under development: USB and Serial 485 With an embedded processor and operating system, which make the blue2link with directional antenna a true plug-and-play device, no extra software is needed in the terminal or any other device connected to it. All Operating environment, Bluetooth specifications, Hardware, Upgrade ability and configuration, Power supply and Ethernet interface data are identical to the ones in the technical specifications for the blue2link, Ethernet version. For serial port specifications, refer to the technical specifications for the serial version of the blue2link Directional antenna characteristics Polarization: Vertical Main lobe half power beam width: 35 horizontally, 30 vertically Long-range capabilities, line of sight A connection between two directional antennas, using Class-2 Bluetooth radio chip has a range of 1300. A connection between one directional blue2link and one omni-directional blue2link both devices with Class 2 Bluetooth radio chip, has a range op to 150 meters. Physical dimensions, weight and product code Height: Width: Depth: Weight: Mounting restrictions The directional antenna can be mounted a few centimeters from any wall, but conducting surfaces should be kept outside of a 1-meter radius in front of the antenna, in order to preserve the radiation characteristics. Since the polarization is vertical, the antenna should be mounted with this in mind. 345 mm 248 mm 26 mm 665 g (including blue2link)
