Undergraduate 2012 Semester 2 Strategic Information Systems (SIS) module entails one assignment. These have been designed to achieve the learning outcomes of the module and to develop the subject understanding of the student.
B. Investigate the role of information-related strategies in large organisation and any changes
they had to make. Please refer to IS literature.
C. Compare and contrast three IS planning frameworks (Robson, Cassidy, Ward and
Peppard) and highlight their significance in creating an IS strategy in an organisation of your choice.
D. How effective are IS planning tools (such as, IS Applications Portfolio, Boston matrix, Critical
Success Factors, PEST, Porters Five Forces, SWOT, Value chain analysis) in IS planning. Please provide examples and illustrations for each of your answers.
Please make sure that all Figures, tables and diagrams are appended to the back of the assignment and are numbered in a logical way. Refer to these clearly in the text and discuss them as though they were actually within the text. This will expedite our word count when marking your work, as there is a proportionate penalty for over-wording! You are not allowed to exceed 3500 words, although a few extra words will not be a problem.
Lapse Please pay an attention to the marking criteria (attached) that will be used to mark your assignment. The submission date for this assignment is 10th August 2012 before 15.00. Please contact the Chair of Extenuating Circumstances and the Undergraduate Programmes Office if you have extenuating circumstances and cannot submit on time. If an extension is formally agreed, then please let Z.Hussain know via email.
Further notes:
a) Make an early start on your assignment and make a plan for completing the assignment tasks. You will note in the delivery schedule that different sessions can be useful in completing different tasks.
b) Make a shared use of books and return them back to the library as soon as possible. c) Backup your typed work on several drives on regular bases. An extension is unlikely to be granted to anyone claiming to have lost their work through disk failure, printer failure, etc. d) Give relevant real life practical examples that you know about or have read about in the newspapers, books, case studies and/or the Internet. e) Use relevant references throughout the assignment and provide a list of these at the end of the assignment, using Harvard referencing style. The word limit for this assignment is 3500 words. This word limit does not include your references, figures (drawings/diagrams), tables, details on the front cover and appendices. A proportionate penalty applies if you go over the word limit. Please consult the latest edition of the Student Handbook. Count the number of words in the assignment and specify the correct wordage on the coversheet. Note: We check the wordage at the time to marking. Please append all the figures, tables and diagrams to the back of the assignment and refer to them clearly in the assignment body, e.g. please refer to Table 1 in Appendix 1.

Also note that a large number of students will be trying to print their assignments on the date of submission and the ICT resources will be stretched to their limit. So please try to print at home or give yourself enough time.
