OTHER CLUBS TALK^ WE DO THE BUSINESS
Welcome back to Elland Road for the start of, hopefully, our promotion-winning 2012/13 season. Normally, we have our last pre-season friendly today but the Olympics have played havoc with the Football League fixture dates; the First Round of the Capital One (League) Cup should have been played next Tuesday. Now, by putting the game forward to today, it means the players get a clear week before we play Wolves at home next Saturday. Tomorrow, we have our annual pre-season Family Fun Day and you are all welcome to come along and watch the players train, get autographs and photographs and have a good time on the fun-fair with Lucas The Kop Cat. Our new secondary sponsor iLuv has provided some fantastic prizes and our Academy Sponsor, Flamingo Land will be in attendance with Milo and Mia. It would appear to have been all quiet at Elland Road this close season. As far as I know, it's been the longest break in history, (all three and a half months of it). No capital works, no extensions, no rebuild... However, behind the scenes it has been a hive of activity. Neil Warnock completed his assessment of every single player and gave them all a one-on-one interview in the week following the final whistle against Leicester City. Those who would be let go were told exactly why; if it was fitness, attitude, ability or any other reason, they knew and were on their way. Neil then turned to his rebuilding of the squad, having cleared out those left behind following Grayson's departure. As usual, there was little information given out to the (understandable) frustration of some of the fans but, as I have always said, we don't do our business through the media. If you show your hand you simply alert the competition and your intentions and thereby run the risk of being forced into a bidding war. We have signed at least three players that other clubs wanted. They talked about it. Neil did the business. Of the three other players that we have sold, Neil considered having signed Kenny that Lonergan deserved better than to be a number two. In the case of Clayton, our estimation of his value did not match that of his agent and instead of moving to the Premier League, he finished just up the road. Regarding the case of Snodgrass: he had a very aggressive agent, and as Snodgrass himself was quoted: "The future of Robert Snodgrass is not in the hands of Neil Warnock, it is in the hands of Robert Snodgrass." Now Neilis confident that he can do the business and that he has a squad whose attitude and determination can deliver for him. We wish him and his men all the best. One player who decided that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence was Aidy White, who has committed himself to Elland Road for the next three years. Neil believes that Aidy will prove his belief right. And remember, our home grown Academy boys are adding to the first-team squaa all the time.
